The problem is not mine, but a friend of mine who is 15 miles away. He is trying to email an Excel spreadhsheet using File>Send to. However, when doing so, his IE homepage populates instead of his document. He is using WinXP and Outlook (not Express). Is there a way to correct this?

It is far better to insert the file into the e-mail than doing the "file-send" thing.

After they have started typing an e-mail, there should be a "paper clip" ikon that will direct him how to add the file, or he can go to the menu bar, and click on "insert"

I second this as this was what I was going to say.

I had him go that route earlier today to send the file. But I've done it myself, sent the email and forgetting to include the attachment, which is a big reason why I use File-send. Why do you say it's better to insert rather than file-send?

Another option is to choose File, Send To as Attachment. That is the same as using the paperclip from the email. I'm like you and sometimes forget to actually attach the document.

~bump~ for the morning crowd.

Theres really nothing to bump. If he cant get the file to send, then he has to make an email and attach said file.

Im sure there is a setting that is opening IE - but he'd have to look fo rit.

Just create the email and attach the file - and dont forget. :confused3

How about copy/paste to the body of the email?

That's a way to do it but not a solution to the problem the person is having - so there is a reason to bump. I do what the OP's friend wants to do all day long - It's a huge hassle for me to have to open Outlook and have to generate an email and attach a file when I can just send it straight from Excel.

OP - Does your friend have issues sending from Word as well?

Tell them to open Outlook - go to Tools - Options - Other and make sure Outlook is the default email program. Let me know if that worked or not :)

I think I found the solution. There was a Q & A in the Sunday paper that pointed me to check the Internet Options in IE. Under programs there is an email setting, one must select the email client from a short list. If his IE is setup with Yahoo for email he needs to change it to Outlook. I'm waiting for confirmation that this is the resolution he needs to send files directly from EXcel or Word. I haven't checked on the computer I'm using (it's set to Outlook and I didn't switch it to test the outcome), but I tried on another PC we have, only the choice was Hotmail or Outlook Express on it, and I got the Hotmail signin box when I tried to send a Word document.
