We're taking two 11 year old boys. Does anyone have an opinion/review on these 2 restaurants?

Thanks!

If you are talking lunch- hands down SCI Fi, the other will be too babyish with the characters. If you are talking dinner it depends on whether or not you want to do the fantasmic package. If you eat at Hollywood and Vine I believe that makes you eligible for it but not at Sci Fi. While I am not a huge fan of the food at sci fi- for the crowd you have described, I think it would be a better bet (unless you wanted fanstasmic because i don't think you get it with that)

If you haven't been to Sci-Fi yet, I would try it out. Just beware that the food and service isn't up to par with the prices and the atmosphere.

Even though I've never been to H&V, I'm almost sure the food is better than at Sci-Fi. :)

I have a reservation for H&V for dinner, but the Fantasmic package wasn't available.

I like the look of Sci-Fi, but my hubby is a big guy and I don't want "fit" to be a problem.

I think the boys would enjoy Sci Fi. It is a neat place and definitely worth a try. As for the size issue, there are tables and chairs available also. If this is a concern, I would mention it when I make the ADRs.

H&V is the one restaurant DH and I agreed we will never return to. Sci-Fi at least has "safe" choices- burgers, etc.

The buffet at H&V is really not appetizing AT ALL.

We took our 11yr old, her bf- 11yrs old, and our dn-8yrs old and they still rave about the experience. :thumbsup2 They sat at the front of the car and we let them order from the menu themselves (HUGE milkshakes included), we sat in the back. The atmosphere is great for kids and those w/ kids @heart. Its standard fare, like most here have said. I had artichoke dip and chips, DH & DB had ribs, kids had burgers and fries. We enjoyed it all. I'd definitely go there. We really didn't care for Hollywood much. If the food was great we'd go back but it wasn't and the atmosphere was nothing to write home about either. JMO
Have a great trip!!!!!!!

I agree. We ate at the H&V with the Fantasmic dinner package in March of this year. The food was not hot, the service was bad and the restaurant was dirty. We will not return. Sci-Fi is one of our favorite restaurants. It is always a must do when we visit WDW. There is another thread going asking about burgers for the evening meal because they are not listed on the dinner menu, only lunch. If you request a burger at dinner, they will prepare it for you. I did this in April when I took a friend to the World. Sci-Fi shows trailers from old creature features. It's a hoot!

Ha!Ha! I just noticed the thread I mentioned was also started by you! You got answers to both questions in this one!

We have never been to H & V, but we did like Prime Time. I have a 18 &14 yr old our next trip. Do you think the Sci-Fi would be a good choice for them?

definately sci fi...........we have done both but HV is just a buffet(I like the food ther fine but many give it bad reviews:confused3 )
Your boys will love sci fi, ask for a table with chairs to fit DH better, or ask for a limo car....enjoy!!

DH and I had a crappy experience at Hollywood and Vine and the food was mediocre at best ( at least that night). We won't be returning there any time soon. We loved the Sci-fi though , we have been there twice and think it has pretty good food and a really fun atmosphere. :)

My DS12 LOVES the Sci-fi  It's the one place he wants to eat at every trip and we usually eat there more than once. We always get the cheesburgers and I think they are pretty good. My son likes the artichoke and spinich dip but I can take it or leave it. The sundaes for dessert are very good.

The best part is the atmosphere. It's so much fun.

We have never tried Prime Time. I have always wanted to but I am pretty shy and I know I wouldn't enjoy the servers.

As for the size issue I think if you got there and thought there might be a problem you could sit at one of the tables. I don't think it would lessen the fun.

Does anyone know if the car out front is the same size as the cars inside? If they are maybe you could get a good idea before you go in.

Have fun!

( Sorry, I just re-read your question. You didn't even ask about Prime Time! I haven't eaten at H&V either because my son only wants to eat at Sci-fi. Someday I will learn to read correctly)

Hollywood and Vine is one of the crappiest restaurants in Disney. I'd choose almost anything over it. Sci Fi is one of the best in MGM however.

With kids that age, I'd say Sci-Fi hands down! It is a really fun atmosphere, and the food is pretty good too. It is on our must-do list for every trip.

I've been to Sci-Fi before but have never seen the limo car (at least I don't think I have). We'll be going again in December and will have the same issue as the original poster... how is the limo car better for a bigger person? The cars with the table/chairs is self explanatory. Also, I already made reservations so should I call back and request the limo car (or table/chairs) or should I wait until we arrive at the Diner?

Thanks for your help!

No, it's not. The food at H&V reminds me of school cafeteria food.

We've been to both. I didn't like the food at H&V. While Sci-fi's fare is typical the restaurant itself was fun. Boys would like sci-fi IMHO

We have been to Sci-Fi twice, both times with a large group. We have done both lunch and dinner and loved both experiences. There is plenty of room, so being comfortable is not a problem. The service was excellent both times! Make sure you request a car and not a table!

Wow...all of these responses make me really glad that that hurricane blew in in Oct. 05 and cancelled our Fantasmic package at H&V! Well, of course not glad for the hurricane, but glad I didn't lose the deposit on it for not going.
We have eaten at Sci-Fi, and are going back for a lunch again on this trip. DM is not impressed with the menu, is more going for the ambiance (and because we requested it) but I'm pretty sure she'll find something to eat.
What I love about this restaurant is how eerily quiet it is, because the movies are on, everybody is eating and staring at the screen. When a utensil drops, you hear it clear across the room. LOL
