Hubby & I are trying to decide whether a trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is for us. Can anyone from that area suggest hotels that would be close by. Also how far is the Hard Rock Cafe? Thanks for any info:cool1:

Can't answer your specific questions but thought I'd mention - Great Lakes Brewery is a great place to eat!!

Not sure on hotels. They will be significantly more expensive than if you stay 15 minutes down the freeway in seven hills off of 77. The Rock Hall of Fame is mostly little videos on computers and clothing worn by stars. I had a pass the inaugural year and never went back aside from one event... at which I chose not to do the tour. But I have one cousin very into music who LOVES it.

The Hard Rock really is not within walking distance to the rock hall of fame in colder weather.. though possible. You can get there warmly in the rapid transit though:)

When are you planning to come? A new aquarium is set to open in January in the flats near all of the action (comedy club, great places to eat, bars).... it is from a company in New Zealand and I believe this is their first North American aquarium. It looks like it will be amazing!

And if you come and stay here, eat at Braza. If you don't mind driving 10-15 minutes go to Melt Bar and Grilled in Lakewood.. they have been on food network a few times... grilled cheese of EVERY kind:)

The Hard Rock Cafe is in Tower City Center. Which is an indoor shopping mall, with walkways to the Indians Stadium and the place where the Cavs play. There are actually two hotels in that building, the Ritz Carlton, and the Renaissance. We have stayed at the Renassaince several times, and have gotten it through priceline for under $100 a night. I think there are only a few four star hotels in downtown Cleveland. There are several that may be within walking distance to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. I think there is a Crowne Plaza and a Marriott too, that are fairly close. There is a website downtownclevelandhotels.net that has them on a map. But for some reason they don't have the RnR HoF on it. But it is west of the Browns Stadium on the lake side. If you go to Cleveland, make sure you hit the museum district. The Cleveland Museum of Art is really great. (it's where my DH proposed to me!). There's a Natural History Museum and a car museum in the immediate vicinity too.

How romantic!! What a beautiful place for a proposal!

There are also botanical gardens in that area ... GORGEOUS any time of year:)

We can not wait for the aquarium! I saw it on the news the other night and it looks like it's going to be nice!

We always enjoy E 4th also. There is a HOB and Pickwick and Frolic/Hilarities. If you are looking for bars, W 6th is popular. The Westside Market is neat also. I know you won't really be cooking, but they have prepared food also. I haven't stood in the long line, but the gyros are supposed to excellent.

Surprising the number 1 hotel in the Cleveland according to TripAdvisor is supposed to be the Airport Marriott, though it is not downtown. I would say it's about 15 minutes or so (depending on traffic and construction) south on 71.

I just saw it on the news too! I feel like I've been living under a rock I had no idea they were even building it!!! :confused3:laughing:

I heard about it a while ago, but didn't realize it was actually happening. There is so much talk about the flats and this and that. I thought this was something that might happen. My son was so excited to hear about the sharks.

There is also Snow Days at Progressive Field (where the Tribe plays). I personally haven't gone since my kids are probably a bit young for it, but it might be worth checking out if you are here in the winter.

Ok...Trip Advisor is insane. I would NEVER pick the Airport Marriott to be the #1 hotel. It's near my in laws, and we always cringe when it comes up as our priceline bid winner.

I didn't know either until someone posted about it on facebook yesterday! DH and I are going to get an annual pass/membership.

OP, if you come to Cleveland, you need to have lunch or dinner at Melt. Its delicious!!

Love their Christmas ale!

I live about an hour away in the Canton area, let me know if you decide to venture down here to the Football Hall of Fame, I've got some bogo coupons.

My husband wants to come and see "The Christmas Story" house. It would be an 8 hour trip one way. ACK!

There's a Melt in Cleveland Heights and they just opened one down south, too. Maybe Strongsville? There's also a Hilton Garden Inn near Progressive Field that is supposed to be nice. You could walk from there to Tower City and catch the Rapid to go to the Rock Hall and the Great Lakes Science Center. The William G Mather is right next door, as well (big ship to wander around). The airport (Burke Lakefront) has a Women in Aviation Museum inside. It's pretty small, but it's free so if that is of interest...

Definitely check out the museums. The Cleveland Museum of Art is free and has just undergone a HUGE expansion. They may not even be done for all I know. The Botanical Gardens are beautiful and interesting indoors and out. My dad volunteers at the Crawford Auto Museum, so I know they are about to start a huge renovation and have removed most of the cars from display for a while. It's attached to the Western Reserve Historical Society and they have a lot of cool things, but don't expect to see many cars for the next few months. Feel free to PM me before your trip and I can check on the status of the Auto Museum if you want. (My dad just showed up at my door. He says the cars are out until next fall!!)

West 25th st. has great restaurants and the West Side Market. The market is one of the oldest of it's kind that is still in operation. Each stall is a different vendor, you can get everything from fancy teas and spices to chicken feet and pig noses! My kids love getting a crepe or a falafel sandwich and sitting up in the balcony to watch the crowds mill about while they eat. The market was also the location of a flash mob singing the Hallelujah Chorus last Christmas. Check out YouTube for the video.

Ok, that should be enough to get you started! Have fun!

The other Melt is in Independence.

The William G. Mather is closed from the end of October until May.
