Help! Pin Code Issue

I received a 40% off pin code in the mail. I'm booked into the BCV for March and thought it would be great if I could use the pin code as a gift for my friend and her family to join us at the Beach Club. I called and found out that even though I am paying for the room I can't put the reservation under my friend's name. I also cannot put it under my own name because I already have a reservation. :(

I'm frustrated because I was told if I booked a room using the pin code, I could book up to 2 additional rooms with the discount. However, I can't link the pin coded reservation to my already (technically full price) DVC reservation.

Does anyone know any way I can get around this? Or could anyone explain the rationale to me, since I am having difficulties understanding the logic?

Thanks!

PIN codes are only for the person specifically named in the offer. There's no other explanation than that -- and certainly not one that would make you happy. As far as I know, if you're not booking in your name, you can't use it or gift it to anyone else.

Hopefully I understood what you were asking because some parts of what you wrote confused me -- the part about "technically full price" reservation - if you are staying on points - you are far from having a "technically full price" reservation. Your reservation with points actually has no price at all (and the fact that DVC and WDTC that offers the discounts are two totally separate entities).

I also didn't understand the part about you paying for the room, but putting in under your friend's name, but I don't think that's relevant.

Here is Disney's logic:

The pin code is for your use on a cash reservation, and then you can also book additional rooms.

A DVC points reservation is not a full price cash reservation, and is not from CRO inventory, thus it does not qualify as a reservation for the pin code.

The pin is assigned to you, not your friends, they would need their own pin, as you do not have a qualifying reservation that enables you to use the pin for additional rooms.

The only option would be to give your friends the villa, and you stay in the PIN code cash room, for which they could repay you. Not something I would do.

No, I definitely don't want to give up my villa. :)

By technically full price, I just meant that I wasn't already receiving any sort of discount on my DVC stay.

I just looked to see what the price would be for me to cancel my DVC stay and book BC hotel for me, but it's not enough of a discount to give up the one bedroom villa. ;)

I guess if my friend somehow gets her own pin, she could book and I could repay the money to her, otherwise I don't want to pay full price for BC. Yikes!

Oh, Vicki, sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my initial post. I wanted to make the reservation and pay for it - as a gift. I would even put it in my own name if that would work. However, since I already have a reservation, I am not allowed to put two reservations in my own name. My friend wouldn't be calling/booking or paying. I wanted to do this as a gift for her family to join us.

Oh well, it was a nice thought while it lasted. :)

Another option would be to give up your one bedroom and try to book two studios on points.
And actually, you are receiving a discount on your DVC stay, isn't that why we all bought...becuase in the long term, ownership of DVC is cheaper than paying rack rate for the same villa rooms through CRO? Otherwise, there would be no point to ownership.

Sorry it doesn't sound like a workable plan, but just wanted to say -- You're a nice friend, definitely!

I can't stay in a studio - there are 5 in my family.

Thanks for your responses, at least it makes sense to me now. The answer I got on the phone wasn't very clear, so I was frustrated.

Change the DVC reservation to your spouse's name, make the PIN reservation in your name?

That won't work, either. Remember cash guests have to pay additonal $ for more than 2 adults in the room. And all guests have to be listed.

Just put one of the adults from the CRO reservation in your room would avoid the added price for over two adults. Not a problem if you are all staying the same length of time.

 I don't love my friend enough to bunk with her husband for a week. :lmao:

Interesting idea. My husband actually got a pin code as well. So, if he and my friend shared a room ( :rolleyes1 ), maybe I could still do this?

But then you have the problem with the names imprinted on the keys. Still not a good option, when you add room charging, park tickets, DDP etc.

I think room charging would be okay, but park tickets and dining would be an issue because they are only staying for part of the time we are there - so my poor husband could only go to the parks (and eat) for part of our vacation.
