Okay. I've gained up the confidence to actually try out for the school talent show, but have no idea which song to choose. It will only be my vocals, no music, because the whole point is for people to hear ME sing and not someone else. I've narrowed it down to a few songs, but I'm completely open for suggestions. Here they are:
  • A Moment Like This (Kelly Clarkson)
  • Breakaway (Kelly Clarkson)
  • I Wanna Know You Like That (Nikki Flores)
  • I Got You (Nikki Flores)
  • This Girl (Nikki Flores)
A friend told me Nikki Flores sounds a lot like me, so I'll probably choose one of her songs. I really like "I Wanna Know You Like That". I could probably listen to it forever and never get tired of it. I can really relate to "This Girl" though.. Nikki Flores is one of my all time favorite singers, so yeah.. well it's up to you guys to choose now! Please give suggestions as well, but nothing too strong. I choose Kelly Clarkson and Nikki Flores because they're both young, so I can pull their songs off myself. Nothing too strong and remember, only my vocals! The talent show is in may, auditions in April but I really want to get a head start so I don't mess up in the audition. If I can, I'll also try to get the kareoke version so I can sing with music - but not with the artist's voice. Please listen to the songs, I really need help!

Thanks peoples,
paw: Emily

Kelly Clarkson is rather well-known and listened to right now and her songs are rather big. If you think you can do it, go for it! Just keep in mind that some people might subconsciously compare you to her vocals while you are singing.

I am not too familiar with the other artist you have mentioned, but it sounds like you are leaning to her songs...just chose what you think you can do and practice and I'm sure you could pull off any song you want. :thumbsup2

Breakaway is a disney song, from the Princess Diaries. other than that I'm stuck. Strangers like me is nice, but sounds funny without the music.

How about "God Help The Outcasts"? I think it would sound great acappella. It would show the range in your voice and show your voice strength.

Hmm.. personally i would stay away from Kelly Clarkson as her material is used way to much and personally is too mainstream to really make an impression on someone.

I considered it, but a grade 8 sang it before, even if I did sing it she was amazing, so it would be difficult to beat! I might stay away from Kelly Clarkson then.. keeping an open mind about suggestions so keep them coming!
(Not too open, then my brains will fall out)

Here are some other Disney songs lol,

Go The Distance *
Second Star To The Right ***
Belle ***
Something There ***
Reflection **
Can You Feel The Love Tonight (Elton John version) ****
If I Never Knew You *****

I think all would sound great, but I added more stars to the songs that I think would sound the best.

If I Never Knew You is a pretty song and I bet you could probably sing it better than Mel Gibbson lol. (I didn't care for how he sang it lol). This song would sound best as a deut. Get a male vocalist to sing it with you and you could probably be the best! You know, get a single spotlight on the two of you while you both sing it together. lol ah so pretty! lol

If I Never Knew You

Reflection would be very difficult, Chirstina Agulaira sang it! I might check out. "If I Never Knew You", it sounds familiar, where is it from? I'm also thinking about "Second Star to the Right". Thanks, Front!

It is from Pocahontas. The link I added to the post after is the scene. It isn't nearly as difficult as Reflection, but I personally think it sounds better. It would be very pretty if you sang it as a duet with a male voice. But, it does work fine, I think, with one voice...even though a bit less pretty. If you could pull off a duet, THAT would be the song.

As a single act, I would put my vote on "Second Star To The Right".

For another duet piece, "Something There" is also a good one!

Oh! Front, I remember where I heard the song, the Cheetah Girls made a remake! I knew I heard it before ;)

The Cheetah Girls did a remake of "If I Never Knew You?" Oh God help us...lol.

Kiss me-sixpence none the richer

God Help The Outcasts in french (Its a much more beautiful song in french)

anything from tarzan.

Yes they did front LOL it was on the Family channel, they showed it at some random time. Oh and guess what? They picked up the tempo- it's really fast now!

Just like them to ruin it... :sad2:

Sparx, that song is GORGEOUS in French.

If you do a Disney song, don't dress up! You'll look stupid. I know a girl who did it, I kind of laughed at her. It was good, but the dressing up was too much.

Don't do Avril Lavigne either. I have yet to meet a person who can sing those songs well, we all know that Avril can't even sing them live. She's AWFUL live.

I'd say Speechless by Melissa O'Neil or Call Your Name by Rex Goudie. Beautiful songs. or if you had a guy friend who likes to sing (not likely) you could do Whiskey Lullaby.
