Hi all,

We are considering a cruise with several families and their children and one daughter has a severe peanut allergy. So severe that it is can be life threatening.

The response from the Disney reservationist when asked if peanuts were used in cooking, etc. was yes, but you can order special dishes. (Although I don't think she was that sure)

The problem isn't ordering special dishes, it's only having food served from similar dishes, pans, etc. that have been used for cooking such dishes.

Does anyone have information regarding how and if Disney has addressed this issue?

Thanks.

I wasn't on the cruise with my parents, so this is second hand info, but:

My Mom and Grandmother are both highly allergic to onions. They talked to their server the first night and they were very accomadating. I believe that the chef came out to discuss it with them. The servers would check lables on all of the ingredients and neither of them had any problems during the 4 day cruise that they were on. I would have them note it on your reservation, and then discuss it with your server. If you don't think the server fully grasps the magnitude of the issue, then I would also discuss it with the Head server.

My mother-in-law was with us on our last cruise. She is allergic to wheat. They were very accomodating to her. Even going so far as to cut the crust off her pies. This is obviously not as risky as a severe peanut allergy but the point is that they worked hard to accomodate her. I'm sure they will help in anyway possible. Thats a high risk allergy that is tough to keep away from.

Our daughter also has a peanut allergy, and we were on the 3 day Wonder in December. We had no problem.
My recommendations are 1) make sure to fill out the Medical Form at least 30 days beforehand.
2) Remind your server. The chef came to our table the first night and went over the menu. He asked if she had any special request. She had Filet, french french fries and steamed veggies every night. (her favorite, our server loved taking care of her. They even cut her filet every night for her.
3)Remember be vigilant yourself.
If you do the clubs, make sure they have an epi-pen available to them. We had no problems!

Enjoy.

DS has a peanut allergy. We just told our servers on our first night, and they went above and beyond the call of duty checking everything DS ate. They brought a celebration cake to our table and they werent sure about it so they went and got DS a special dessert. I think they were more concerned than we were.;) Our waiter told us they had someone on the magic who had a severe allergic reaction to something once, so they are very careful about this stuff.
Good luck!

We sailed Dec. 1 with another family. My friend is allergic to a lot of things like shellfish and mango. They were very accommodating in the restaurants and she thought it was taken care of in a pleasant manner. However, one day she was getting icecream at scoops and the CM very pleasantly asked if we would like some fresh Mango. We know they don't switch the knife when they cut up various fruits. I would think it would be worse with a life-threatening allergy because you never know about cross-contamination.

I told my travel agent about my food allergy and she immediately called DCL to discuss it with them. They sent a medical form for me and/or my physician to fill out and fax back. They said the servers, chef etc. as well as the doctor would kow before hand and make sure I knew which items contained the ingredient I can't have. Peanuts are scary business.....make sure you tell the server and the chef every night to verify NO PEANUTS!
