We are heading to Disney in August and I have a pretty severe Onion allergy (causing migraines and vomiting) and can't tolerate more than a tiny bit of garlic. With all the good things they now say about garlic-it seems that every restaurant has added it to everything on the menu (it has sharply cut down on my family's ability to eat out). I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a problem like this. It seems that restaurants don't believe anyone has an onion allergy. I have had Subway Sub Shop workers get upset that I make them change their gloves after handling onions on someone else's sub in line before me and frequently restaurants just take the onions off the top of the salad, but I will still get a migraine if I eat a tomato that has been laying beside a fresh onion. I have had Disney note the allergy on my reservations, but I am still concerned.

Disney is amazing when it comes to managing food allergies. My DGD is allergic to dairy and eggs and the chef spoke to her mother at every restaurant. One chef explained that they are trained in over 40 food allergies and that they never cross contaminate becasue they use separate utensils in a different area for cooking that item. At this point, Disney is the only vacation destination that my DD will consider taking her DD for an extended period of time because.

I would suggest that you head over to the DISabilities forum and you will get a lot if information. The people who post there are happy to help and will have suggestions so that you can enjoy planning your trip without the stress that normal meal planning would involve.

Definitely check out the Disabilities board.

But I'll tell you about my mother-in-law and the Disney Cruise Line. On our first night dinner, my mother-in-law tasted her soup. It had cilantro in it. She hates the taste of cilantro. She says it's like eating tin foil. She gets her entree and - cilantro. She barely eats it and tastes my father-in-law's meal which was cilantro free. Cilantro is not something that is advertised as "cilantro encrusted prime rib" or anything. It's just there.

The server noticed the very full plates from my mother-in-law and asked her if there was something wrong. She told him about the cilantro.

For the rest of the seven day cruise, my mother-in-law received whatever she wanted. The cilantro was omitted.

I think you are going to be very surprised at the lengths Disney will go to ensure you have a great meal with no headaches after.

If you are making ADRs jus tell the CM about the allergy and they will add it to your reservation. At every TS we went too the chef would come out and discuss our options with us. Even at the buffetts, they would walk you through the lines and explain what everything contained down to the sauces and such and what to avoid.

Disney knows how to do it right!! Have no worries.

There is someone to talk to even about the CS places. Can't recall but maybe someone has the number to call for that too.
