Help on project Please?

I am hoping someone can help me out with some ideas. My ds has a project due. It is a model on the book the Outsiders. I have not read the book or seen the movie, so don't know where to begin. Don't have time to before it is due either. This is for four 100 grades, so he really needs to do good on this. He is not doing very well in this class anyway. How would you go about making the model about this movie? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Hope someone can help us out. Thanks in advance.

In the book and the movie : In one part of the movie Ponyboy (whose parents had died in a car accident) and Johnny (who has parents but they don't care about him) had to run away because of a fight in the park with Randy and Bob (who are Socs) in which Johnny kills Bob with a switchblade.

After he kills Bob (who was played by Leif Garrett in the movie) they run to Dallas Winston -Dally (Matt Dillion) who tells them about this old abandon church that they can go to and hide out for a while. Ponyboy and Johnny runaway...to this church and the next morning hegoes to get a week’s supply of bologna and cigarettes, and a paperback copy of Gone with the Wind, which he wants Ponyboy to read to him. Johnny suggests that they cut their hair for a disguise, and he bleaches Ponyboy’s hair. A few days go past and Dally comes to the church, gives ponyboy a letter and tells them whats going on with the investigation into Bobs death. As they return they notice a bunch of school children on a picnic at the church which is on fire. When one of the adults yells that some of the children are missing, that is when Ponyboy hears the screaming of the kids in the church. Johnny and Ponyboy
Ponyboy climb into the window to save the kids..Johnny gets badly burned by a piece of burning timber which falls on him and might have broke his back..He had passed away. Dally is also in the hospital for having burns also.. but when he hears of the death of Johnny thats when he goes crazy...Dally calls and says he just robbed a grocery store and is running from the police. The gang runs out and sees police officers chasing him down the street. Dally pulls out the unloaded gun he carries, and the police shoot him. Dally falls to the ground, dead.

Wow .... I remember this book and movie .... back then I loved it and still do...Maybe he can build a church and put flames on it... Or he can tried to tell a little something about each charater and have something Bob the soc had 3 rings which he wears when he has a fight with the greasers....another character loves his switch blade... another(socs) works at a gas station ( cars could be something,,,) and all of the greasers slick back their hair... where as the socs don't..... So the greasers have no real family in a since and the Socs do.... Socs have cars and greasers don't.. they have to walk or take the bus....Just have him tell you about things and take main things from that book and put togather like a symbol box...


I hope you can use something in this....

Thank you very much. Now I at least know what it is about. I hope we can get it together, and he makes a good grade on this. I like your ideas on the church, cars, and people in it. You gave me an idea maybe do the church and cars in the box, but not sure about the people. I am sure I could get those little army men, but how to make them look like greasers and socs. Who knows? Maybe something will come together in this crazy mind of mine. HAHA. Thanks again for your help!

This book is great -kudos to the teacher making the students read it! I am a high school English teacher and agree with what suzy said. This book makes an impact on so many students.

Church with the flames is a good idea - the park with the fountain in the middle where Bob is killed.
When you say model? Do you mean a three-dismensional set replica??

Not sure about 3D. On the project paper all it said was a model. Not quite sure what was meant by this. Thanks for the well wishes, and I hope we come up with something good. My ds enjoyed the book.
