Help not sure if we should do DXDP

We will be in Disney for 9 nights in Oct. We are staying the first 4 nights at the Poly and then meeting up with our family in a Grand Villa for 5 nights. I would like to do the DXDP for the first 4 nights bc it will just be my family. It will cost us $1035 for the 4 nights. The good part is that we can use it for a full five days bc we arrive very early the first day and since we will be moving to another resort on our check out day, we have that whole day. We have done the Basic Dining Plan several times and we have done no dining plan several times. I like being on the dining plan bc I feel like it is more relaxing and I am not constanly worrying about prices. Anyway, I have always wanted to do the DXDP and since we are probably going to buy APs for this trip I though it would be fun to try it. My biggest problem with it is that my 11 year old son eats nothing and I have to pay 79 a day for him. The only thing that may work is that my 8 year old son does eat like an adult so I was thinking the older one could order off the adult menu and the younger off the kid menu. For anyone who has done the DXDP do you think it is worth it? It is way too much food? Do you feel like it is a waste for the kids? especially when they are charged for an adult but don't eat like one.

That's fine -- you're limited to ordering no more than 3A/1C at a time in your situation, but there's nothing restricting you from having the kids "swap" meals.

Only you can really decide whether or not it's "too much" or "not worth it". From a dollars and cents perspective, assume a DxDP adult meal credit costs you about $27 and a child meal credit costs about $7 (less or more, depending on how much value you place on the 2 snack credits per night) -- are you going to use 12 credits each over 5 days that will average out to that much or more per credit?

Don't let your 11 year old waste credits. In your situation, I would simply dine for 2 adults and 1 child. As appetizers are included, that should be plenty of food for 2 adults and 2 children. If necessary, buy an extra kids meal oop.
The "extra" credits can give you signature meals. Doing it this way, you would have enough credits for 4-5 signature meals.

I didn't know we were allowed to do this. That is a great idea. Thanks.

With the DxDDP, I'm not sure you'll want/need extra credits for more meals. I think your original idea to let the younger one have the adult meal and the older one the kids' meal will work better. Remember you ALL get 3 TS credits each and every night, so that's 12 credits to use over the five days.

Once you decide where you want to eat, if you have more than 12 credits, you could decide to go with the OOP kids' meals.

While I would usually agree with Sharon's statement, I think this situation is slightly different -- if paying about $80 per day for a child, but only get $15-20 in value, the value of the plan is decimated.
And even a good eating 8 year old is not going to get $80 of value.

Since op is there for a full 5 days, there is time to conserve credits.

By only ordering 3 meals at most sittings, instead of 12 credits per person over 5 days, you end up with 16 credits per person--- just the right amount for 1 signature plus 1 ts lunch or breakfast per day, with just 1 left over credit.

I have to agree with Havoc on this one. As far as the DXDP it is great knowing you can do signature restaurants and enjoy an appetizer and dessert. We do not dine out often so when we vacation at the world is our time to splurge. Enjoy!:thumbsup2

Another thing to think about is making ADR's. I am assuming it's this October you are going. At this point there may not be alot of availability for places you might want to go and when you times that by two (DDXP gets two sit down meals a day) it may be hard. You may want to go online and see what is available for your time and see if it works for you. Good luck with whatever you decide.
