Help.... new to Universal

We are going to disney in Jan 2012. We want to spend a day at universal. Should we buy the pass that includes both parks or just Islands of Adventure? What can we accomplish in one day? Hoping Jan 11 is a pretty slow time. Any advice on anything is appreciated!

I would highly recommend going to BOTH parks. In all honesty, Universal is second only to Disney. As for what you can do in one day... it all depends on the crowds. But you should plan on getting there 35-45 minutes before park opening and be at the gate waiting to enter. If you do this, and spend all day at the parks, from opening till closing, and don't waste any time slow poking it around, I think you could easily do everything once. (Some things even twice)

I am very interested in this question as well. My family and I will be in Orlando this June and were thinking about spending a day at Universal this time around. My children are 11 & 7, however my 7 year old is pretty short. So I'm not sure how much he would be able to enjoy at Universal. It's either this or a day at Kennedy Space Center.

Based on this past January...WWoHP was still busy throughout January which is historically slow. You shouldn't have any problems doing everything you want at the Studios but the wild card will be the lines at WWoHP. If they are long it will cut into your park time.

You could do this...buy the one park ticket and if you find you have the time and desire to do both parks, you can upgrade to the two park ticket at Guest Services. It's going to be tough to try and do both parks in a single day though. This past year, the Studios was open 9-6 and IOA was open 9-7 on January 11th. Now...there's no way to tell what the hours are going to be next year but based on this year, it would still be tough.

If you only have the one day to devote to the parks, check out the website and YouTube for ride videos and determine which park holds more interest.

June is a little easier because the parks are open longer but you have the crowds and the heat to deal with. I think there are plenty of things your seven year old to do and still have a good time.

one day does not do justice in visiting both parks for a newbie.


buy a one day ticket, upgrade to a park hopper while you are there or upgrade to a two day one park ticket.

Exactly HOW short? I myself am only 4' 8'' (and 20 years old). I think I was generally as tall as the 9&10 year olds I taught. Anyways, how tall are they? There is plenty of stuff at both parks that they would be able to do with a kiddy section at US and Dr Suess at IOA. Plus kiddy coasters and such.

After thought- They most likely wont be able to ride: Dragon Challenge, Dr Doom, Hulk, Rip Ride Rocket,

Maybe: Forbidden Journey, Men in Black, Mummy,

My DD is quite tall, she's just under 5 feet. But the little guy is only 44" or so. He will be almost 8 when we go but he's the size of most 5 year olds.
