I guess this is a good place to ask for help. We are interested in the Villas Grand Californian, but it seems that the incentives are vastly improved if we have a referral, is this true?

Is there any risk in a current dvc owner referring us?

I want to watch that dvd but the question of referral comes up right there, and I would rather not toss a sweetened deal for impatience.

Can anyone help us with advice or such?

Yes, the incentives are better with a referral from an existing member.

There is a thread here on the dis with many folks willing to offer referrals. You definately get better incentives with a referral. good luck!!

Hi Wade! Welcome to the DIS.

I saw your posts on the Mousellaneous board and gave some information to hopefully help in answering your questions there. Yes, your purchase incentives would be better with a referral.

VGC looks to be an incredible addition to the DVC family of resorts, and is linked to such a beautiful hotel. I hope your deliberation process is a good one, and don't hesitate to ask questions here - you'll get lots of useful answers and opinions. :)

I think that with a referral, it just gives you a lot more options on which incentives to take. For example, when we bought, the incentives at the time for people who didn't have referrals was $1,000 gift card (which could be applied toward a down payment) plus an equal number of developer points at SSR. With an referral, however, you could get a $5.00/point discount and a free cruise, based on how many points you purchased *or* you could have opted for the $5.00/point discount plus the developer points *or* the $1,000 gift card and the developer points *or* the $1,000 gift card and the cruise.

Now, we bought 220 points, so the $5.00/point discount was obviously a better incentive, but if we had only bought 160 points, a $5.00 discount would have only gotten us a $800.00 discount, so the $1,000 gift card would have been the better draw. So, long story short, definitely use a referral just so you can have as many options to draw from as possible.

Happy DVC shopping and do make sure and ask any questions on the boards! :goodvibes

Wade others have mentioned there are many people that would be willing to be your referral to help you get better incentives. Do you have any questions about the VGC that I can answer for you? Have you seen the rooms yet yourself? We have stayed at the GC hotel a few times a year since it has opened and were just waiting for them to announce that they were finally building DVC there. We toured the models right after they opened and went to the presentation they had at the Paradise Pier hotel. We have owned at the BWV since 1998, but we added on 500 points at the VGC.
