I hope someone has experience with kittens. We just brought home a 4mth old kitten from the shelter today. She is on deworming medication with her next dose due on 12/9. She jut had loose stool with blood in it. I don't know what to do. Should I be worried? Is this common with kittens on deworming meds? How long might this last? Thanks for ANY advice!

I, personally, would be concerned about the blood. It doesn't hurt to give the vet a call.

I don't think that's normal. You'll need to call. Were there any worms that you could see in the stool?

Definitely better safe than sorry. Good luck with your new kitty! :)

Yes, I would call the vet. I adopted a kitty a year ago (a stray who climbed into my car to stay warm) and the vet figured she was about 3 months old at the time we found her. She had worms, and was given deworming treatment. There was no blood in her litter box after the treatment (there was a big scary dead worm though! Totally horrific!!! Poor kitty, thank goodness she's healthy and clean now.)

Good luck with your kitty!!

Thanks everyone! No, no worms in the stool. I looked at her records from the vet, and she was treated for worms on 11/27. Next dose 12/6. I've never had this problem with kitties before.

Before calling the vet, call the shelter. I know at our shelter there is a period of time they give you for medical things like that. Call them and see what they say. They may tell you not to worry about it since the dewormer was only given today. They may tell you to come in and let their vet look at her (if they have a vet). They should have told you at the time of adoption what to do if any medical things come up.
