I'm thinking about flying into MCO at 630am!

:scared1:

Last time we went to WDW, we arrived on a Monday at about 6pm. It felt like I wasted an entire day that we could have been doing something!

Not necessarily going to the parks, but resort hopping, DTD, etc.

I'm just wondering how many other crazy families fly into MCO overnight and arrive to see the sun come up?

Do you feel more exhausted and waste that time sleeping anyways?

Do you get more accomplished?

I'm thinking the earlier the better right???:confused3

For me, a redeye flight is the worst ever. I can't sleep on a plane so I'm entirely worthless the next day.

DH and I are both early risers, though, and often leave around 6:00 am and arrive around 9 or 10. That works out very well for us because we're not too tired to enjoy ourselves once we arrive.

We generally book a flight for around 7:00 am, which means we have to get up around 3:00, but we get to WDW around noon and are off to the parks!

We manage to sleep pretty well on planes so often plan to arrive early (after a super early or overnight flight). We do NOT plan on trying to do something BIG that first day (like a park or water park). Generally we check in, have breakfast, then head out to either downtwon Disney or to play minigolf. By lunch time we are starting to feel the drain from a short night and we head back to the hotel for lunch and then a nap in the room (sometimes you get lucky and can get in before 3:00--other times not). We make a point of not napping for more than a couple of hours--otherwise we can't get to sleep at night time. We swim in the afternoon and have a nice dinner at a resort hotel before bedtime. It is a nice way for us to ease into the vacation.
From the looks of your signature you are just two adults (on the young side) traveling with no kids. If so, I would htink you have a good chance of making an early arrival work at just fine:thumbsup2

I'd take a red eye and even if I couldn't sleep on a plane and was tired when I got there & didn't feel like going to a park, I'd rather be napping by a pool in WDW than wasting a day of vacation. Have a bathing suit readily available, grab some breakfast, dine poolside and then nap...sounds like heaven to me....

I left one time at 8 am, and granted it only takes 2 hours by plane, but by the time we got to our rooms, it was after noon, and DD was annoyed. And we were still up at 3 am-ish. I rather get there early than late.

I like to be checking in around 2-3pm so we can see the room before we head out to a park. Just in case there is a problem, we are not waiting for it be resolved when we want to shower after getting back, etc....

so that is about a 10 am flight from chicago, which means getting to the airport between 7 and 8 am. which means getting up at about 6 am.

arriving at 6 am would be toooooo early for me.

Mikeeee

From the west coast? Noooooooo! I sleep okay on planes but am still a hot mess the entire day and usually for a few after when taking those west to east coast red eye flights. (East to west coast are not as bad....at least for me.)

Argg!!! I'm not sure what to do!!!!

I have done a red eye from la to Jamaica before...but when we arrived we were able to lounge around since that's what you're 'supposed' to do.

I'm seriously thinking of giving the red-eye a shot...oh lord be with me!:worship:

I was thinking of doing perhaps a precheck-in (if they have this sort of thing) and freshening up at the pool restrooms???

Somebody, somewhere on the DIS said that they have done the red eye flight and took a shower in the pool restrooms since they could not check into their resort room at 7am.

Are there even these types of restrooms at the POP or CSR pool area? (Still debating between the two)

Thanks for all your insights! You've all given me a lot to think about :teacher:

Not that Pop isn't great, but if it's just the 2 of you, I just find CSR more romantic....:love:Thanks for all your insights! You've all given me a lot to think about :teacher:

We're on the East Coast but we take the first flight and will be arriving at MCO at 8am. We usually spend the day lounging at the pool until our room is ready. This time we might drop our bags off at VWL and then head straight to Blizzard Beach for the day!

I would rather get in early and hang by the pool or something then get in at 6pm knowing a whole day of my vacation was already gone!

(If where you're staying has a gym, there should be showers there that could be used! I know the VWL have showers/bathrooms right outside the gym area)

I'm TOTALLY thinking CSR also!...

BUT....DH says that the $500 that we would be saving between the two resorts can go towards half of the payment towards the beeeautiful fridge that he wants! LOL!! What a woman thing to say! :rotfl2:

EXACTLY!

I'm almost thinking about taking a sleep aide, since I don't generally sleep well on planes. I'm just scared that it well completely take over me, and I'm gonna have to be dragged off the plane..

We took a 6:30 am flight and were at Pop at 10:00 (granted we had a shorter flight) but the room was ready when we arrived! Actually this has happened to me twice in the last year-both times at the Pop). So we explored the hotel and headed to the parks at lunch time.

Well, this certainly gives me a sliver of hope that our room could 'possibly' be ready earlier then expected...

I'm hoping that because we're going in the off season that more rooms may be available so that we could check in early.

I'm not getting my hopes up but I'm glad to hear this!

What if instead of taking something to help you sleep you just get up early on the morning of your flight. You'll have a good long day and by the time you're settled in on your flight you'll be tuckered out! :thumbsup2

We got to VWL one time at around 10am and our room (villa) was ready, so it does happen!

This could DEFINITELY work!!!

I do the 4am shift at work so I'd be up at 3am anyway on the day we leave!!! I just won't take my powernap!

Thanks for that!:flower3:

:thumbsup2

You'll have to keep us posted, when are you going??

I'll bet you ARE excited!! Whatever you decide, you'll have a great time!

(We're headed to WDW in Sept and the kids have NO CLUE! We're not telling them until we wake them for the airport at about 3am!):)
