Hi

We are going to Chicago in October and were just wondering if anyone had any ideas for a good hotel. We were thinking of the Holiday Inn Chicago City Centre, but wanted to know if this was central and if anyone had stayed here what it was like.

We have looked at Frommers and a couple of other books and they seem to give it a good review, but if you know of somewhere better than that would be great.

Also I want to go to Buddy Guy's Legends and Chess Studios so any help on this would be great.

Thanks in advance

Helen

A good site for hotels in Chicago is www.877chicago.com

I don't know where the Holiday Inn that you are inquiring about is located so if you could give a street it's on I might be able to tell you a bit more.

Hi Helen. Not being a Chicago travel, but rather a resident, I can only tell you, location-wise, it is a very nice location, close to the 'action' of Navy Pier, Michigan Avenue and River North. I do think, if I recall, Bob O, a DIS'er from Milwaukee, has stayed there. You maybe can send him a PM. (Bob's link http://www.disboards.com/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=7609 )

Also have never been to Buddy Guys, but would love to, a great Chicago blues artist. (I am sure you have gone here, but if not www.buddyguys.com/ ) And who can not have a soft spot for Chess, remembered by the Stones in their early days with their 2120 South Michigan Avenue. But sadly, never have seen it either. I guess there is something to be said for being a tourist in a town, LOL, you see more things.

Other links you might refer to are

Enjoy our city!!! :sunny:

I just checked the site that I listed in my last post and it does appear that the Holiday Inn is near Navy Pier which is a good place to be near. It shouldn't be far from North Michigan Ave and State Street. All have things to do within walking distance. If you want to do the museums - you need to take public transportation or if you have a vehicle you will need to drive there as it will be WAY too far to walk.

Hope you have a great time. I don't know anything about the other places you mentioned but hopefully someone else will.

December99/Dan thanks for the links tips, I will definitely check them out.

Dan, I was brought up listening to Buddy Guy and various Chess artists, my Dad was a big fan of Blues, but sadly passed away three years ago. He never got a chance to go to either of these places so I am going on his behalf.

But sadly, never have seen it either. I guess there is something to be said for being a tourist in a town, LOL, you see more things.
You can always be a tourist with me :bounce: :bounce:

Thanks again

Helen
