It was suggested that I post this to other boards, so here goes:

We were involved in an auto accident last night (Sat. 10/9/04) at the corner of Vineland and 535 (by Bahama Breeze) at approx. 12:40am (Family is all okay, thank goodness). The other driver was in a rental car and is denying he ran the red light (I had the green arrow turning onto Vineland). I was so concerned making sure the kids were okay I didn't even think about stopping anyone as a witness and it's now our word against his. We would like to thank the two good samaritans (firefighter and the lady who called 911) who stopped to make sure we were okay.

If any Dis'ers were in the area and happened to see anything and would not have a problem talking to our insurance co Please, Please, Please email me. I would be very appreciative.

Cars involved were a dark green Ford Aerostar mini van (us) and a Nissan (Sentra I think).

We were due to drive home this morning and are now stranded until our vehicle can be made driveable. We can't do anything further with our insurance co until Monday. I guess it's a good thing I brought plenty of sandwich and snack stuff with us. We can hang out at the pool and have 1 plus left on our hoppers so we can get transport to a water park for a day when the kids are going stir crazy. It could be a lot worse....at least none of us were seriously injured and we had a great time up until this point.

So if anyone can offer any help as a witness, we would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks In Advance!
Sharon

Sharon,
When you talk to your insurance person (be it agent or company) ask if you have travel expenses on your policy - they may be able to help you get home, or get your vehicle moved home so the work can be done there. So sorry we can't help otherwise - but I'm glad to help with any insurance claim related questions I can. I've been doing this kind of work for a long time.

Thanks for your response. As of right now our van was towed yesterday afternoon to a State Farm approved body shop to do the estimate. We are waiting to find out the results. Our policy did not cover the towing cost home to TN but does give us $400.00 travel expenses and we also have coverage for a rental car. Since we do not really need a car locally we are waiting to find out if we will need it to get home. My husband will return at a later date when the van is ready

There is a possibility that we can have just the mechanical work done here to be able to drive home and have the body work done there. I was told that Florida is a "no fault" state so it doesn't matter if the other guy was at fault. I am not real sure how that works.

My biggest concern at this point is that since our vehicle is an older model ('95) the amount of damage might cause State Farm to total it. I don't know that we will receive enough money to cover the purchase of another vehicle. It's all wait and see at this point.

Sharon

P.S. Hook 'em Horns!! My husband is a UT grad!

Just wanted to pass along my hugs! Sorry that had to happen. I hope you get it all worked out and soon!

good luck
