This is NOT an ad to SELL - just my story -

We have been OKW members since 1991 and have loved every year of ownership.

My husband recently suffered a Stroke and we won't be using DVC anymore! :sad2:

I have had to cancel a Disney Jan. 7, 2012 cruise, booked on points, just 1 week before his stroke! :guilty:

I have registered For Sale at the Timeshare Store, however, with this sad economy, I don't see a sale.

Any suggestions (other than listing w/TimeshareStore?) on how best to sell my contract?

I don't have the time nor energy (tending to sick husband) & need the LEAST amount of involvement possible.

As as owner for over 20 years, this is the first time I've realized that there is no easy way to sell/return a contract, or even 'rent' points, through Disney in order to recover annual dues expense. :confused3

How stupid I was not to recognize such a problem would/could occur?

Getting old and sick is not for 'sissies'.

I appreciate any suggestions/comments. Thanks!

EDIT: Specific contract info, such as use year and number of points have been deleted from this post. - Chuck S

Unfortunately, you cannot post for sale posts on the DIS. You'll probably need to edit your post (or the moderators will do that for you). Contact one of the reselling companies - there are several of them and they all are professional. The Timeshare Store is one place to start. See their link on this page.

I have no advice but I would like to offer a . I know this must be very hard for you. Praying that things get better and that you get the advice that you need here.

I'm sorry for your situation.

However, you really should edit your post to remove the specifics regarding resort, # of points, points remaining, etc. It will be construed as a for sale post and I wouldn't want you to get points from the mods or anything.

The fair price is just whatever the resort is currently selling for. What you paid for it isn't part of the equation, unfortunately. Just like selling a house, if you set the right price, the contract will sell.

I wouldn't expect prices to go up anytime soon (or ever), but if you want to wait and see if that happens, you could rent your points through David in the meantime to recover your maintenance fees.

Renee-

First a big :grouphug: for you and your family. I cannot even begin to imagine what you are feeling.

You mention renting and covering your dues, but then also talk about selling. Do you need to sell andget a lump sum payment or is being able to cover your dues and add some monthly income something that would work for you? There are creative solutions to your situation if you are willing to work with the right person(s)

If you are interested in some ideas send me a PM

Best of luck to you and your husband

I agree with the others, please remove the specifics of your listing so the mods won't remove the thread.

Sorry that your husband is so ill.

Like others have stated resale contracts just aren't selling at high prices any more. You might want to consider that you did get 20 years of use on your original contract so that if you don't recover the full cost there, you still have some pretty happy memories instead.

No real advice, but you might consider renting points with Daddio -- you would have to work with MS to make reservations for the renter. Mostly I wanted to add this::grouphug:

Even with the stroke, your husband's health might improve. Prayers for that ending.

Renee, so sorry to read about your current situation, my prayers go out to you and your family. It is good that you posted here and asked for ideas. Please don't rule out the help of God, the power of prayer, and the love of family.

I'm with you on that one !! :thumbsup2 Yes indeed.

Renee - for now, could you contact David's Vacation Rentals? He seems to be well-liked around here and is a sponsor (if I'm not mistaken). He could possibly help you rent out points until you can sell your timeshare; at least that would help recover some of the cost?

Whatever you do, good luck to you. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband.

Just to add my sympathies as well  and to ditto the suggestion to use Daddio's to rent your points. I've just used them for the first time and it was a very easy, pain-free process.

The best way to sell fast is to price it to sell. List it alot less than others are. You won't get the price you want , but you will be out from under the dues. Good luck and God Bless.

List them with EVERYONE that sells them I am pretty sure that the listing contract with TSS is not exclusive....

I have sold with DVC by Resale. There's Fidelity etc....

And if the goal is to get rid of them be realistic. It sounds like this might be a large contract (I missed the intial post) and you may just have to undercut the competition to get them gone! But with all fhose years of use IMHO it's not really a loss is it? I have already decided if I ever get in this position I am "fire selling" the points. For my OKW for example right now if I had to get out the contract I would go with $50 or so. (And for those of you reading, my points are not for sale, please don't PM me offering to buy!)

Good Luck and hang in there!

So sorry to hear the news. Hang in there. We just sold multiple contracts. It took several months but they finally sold. You just have to list them for the right price.

I'm so sorry for what has happened and am glad you both had so many years of enjoyment. Have you looked into having David's rent your points to tide you over for now? I think the best way to sell them is really to go with Timeshare Store or another resale broker. Just think how long you've enjoyed your points and you'll probably feel you're ahead financially. Hugs to you both.

Sorry to hear about your husband's stroke and hope that with today's medical possibities things will improve for you. Before you make any hasty decisions you reallly might want to do as others have suggested and contact David about renting your points. You can probably get enough to pay your maintenance fees and have some extra doing that. Then if things improve you may still have some trips ahead of you.

Timeshare Store: they will list your DVC for sale and/or rental

David's Vacation Rentals: will help rent your points to cover your dues

Sorry to hear about your husband.

I agree with this advice. You may also want to consider adding a person you trust as an associate member. This way you will not even have to deal with making the reservation for the renter.

This will give you time to find out what your new normal life will be like. After being a member for so long, I would hate for you to later regret any decisions you make before you adjust to your new life.

I am so sorry to read about your husband's stroke. I hope he has a full recovery.

My sisters Father-in-Law suffered a stroke a few years back. The first couple of months he was really bad off. But over the next year, he slowly regained a lot of his loss abilities.

As many have mentioned, you can list with various resale agents and use the R/T board sponsor to rent points. The right priced contracts do sell.
