Help! Need to exchange a gift

I need to exchange a gift DS got for Christmas. DSIL got him a Jensen IPod docking station. DS got a SanDisk MP3 player...not IPod. The docking station is not compatible w/ his MP3 player. I asked DSIL where she got it. She got a little defensive and asked why was I asking. I let her know that we needed to exchange it and why. She then let me know that she ordered it online and couldn't return it. She would not tell me who she ordered it from. (DSIL has serious issues when people return or exchange her gifts)

I know that DSIL's favorite store is Target. I looked online and sure enough, Target does carry this particular item. However, I do not have any sort of receipt or anything...just the product.

My question: does anyone know if I can possibly return this item to Target? If not, what should I do?

Target will only allow you 2 returns a year without a receipt. If you haven't returned anything in a year you will be fine. They will give you a store credit.

Thanks Ann. I will try there tomorrow. No, I haven't returned anything there. A store credit would be great. DS could then pick out something that he likes.

Just tell Target you received it as a gift. I just observed them do this for someone. Remember, without a receipt you'll get the lowest price it has been sold for. You could also try any other store that has this product. If the box is unopened, you'll have better luck.

Best Buy will take packaged stuff like that back - same deal, store credit.
