Is it even allowed? What "story" should I tell the airline in order to get a refund/partial refund/future credit or something. I am due to fly on Delta next Saturday to Orlando. Becuase of personal reasn I know longer want to to take this flight. I however dont want to lose out on my $$$$. So has anyone ever canceled a flight with Delta or any other major airline and been allowed to get there money back or a future credit?

If you purchased discount, non-refundable tickets, the fare is not refundable. You can, however, apply the value of the ticket towards the purchase of a new ticket, minus a penalty. The size of the penalty varies based on the terms and conditions of the tickets you originally purchased, between $25 and 100% of the ticket price.

I bought tickets on-line with United and I accidently had the wrong date for return. I called and had to talk to a few supervisor's to get a refund. This was 3 years ago when United started selling the no-refund tickets on-line. She credited my account, but I got a stern lecturer about watching what I do on-line and to make sure I never did it again. WTH! The best you can do is call and see what they say.

I cancelled with Delta before. You don't even need a reason, but even with a nonrefundable ticket, you'll be charged a fee (when I did it, it was 35 dollars). If it is a nonrefundable ticket, you'll have a voucher that can be used to fly within 12 months of when you booked the flight (not when you were scheduled to fly).

I am going to call Delta and see what penalty I would get charged. I mean they should let me cancel the flight is not even sold out........Question: So why are miles only awarded after you have taken the flight if regardless your paying for that flight if you go or not?

Think of it this way...you pay for a college class, but only receive the credits after you complete the course.

I'm in the Midwest, so I haven't been following Wilma, but could you say you don't want to go to Florida because of the hurricane? I don't even know if Wilma is supposed to hit that part of the state or when, but I do know that in the past airlines have waived penalties for cancelling flights during hurricane season.

Actually, only if you PASS the class -- and you pay either way!

Would my Amex Delta Miles do anything for me? Seems that now a days credit cards try to loore you in with all these special services and discounts. I never see any of them myself. I was wondering perhaps since I have the Delta Skymile Credit Card they might insure my flights........

Many credit cards provide accidental accident insurance, that provides coverage for you if you're killed as a result of a flight.

Standard travel insurance, which you could have purchased separately, would help you make up for losses you incur as a result of specific covered events, such as natural disasters and strikes.

You can definitely cancel a flight on Delta/Song. My neice did recently. You do not get the $ credited back to your credit card, but rather the amount of the ticket is good towards another flight w/i 12 months of the original booking date. They do "charge" you a change fee of $25 for Song, I believe $50 for Delta flights when you make your new ressie. They do not take this change fee off your credit when you cancel your original flight, but when you rebook your new flight.
