Help, need snarky answers

They still have not fitted him for the GPS tracking device I've requested, so I really don't know......

A non-verbal one: Opens desk, pulls out and throws a pair of dice, gestures at result.

Sorry, the lojack isnot working today.

As for nipping it in the bud, from my own experience, being serious and saying you really don't know and explain why does not work. Asking them not to ask anymore does not work. Some people don't get it.

"Ok. I'll play your silly game. IS he up there now?"

"Sorry, my crystal ball is out being cleaned right now."

I actually share an office with my boss. People are all the time asking me if he is in today - well, his computer is on so that would be a strong indicator:idea:

Then they will ask where he went. Ok - he is an adult - he doesn't tell me every time he leaves the room where he is going. If he isn't here and you need to speak to him - send him an email, leave him a note, call his phone and leave a message.:thumbsup2

I don't know about the OP, but nipping it in the bud has yet to work for me. I get asked a series of stupid questions every day - the same ones. I even tried a manifesto taped to my desk, but it didn't work.

People are just clueless. ex: I have a clock behind me. It's pretty obvious and yet I get asked at least a dozen times a day for the time. So I look up at them to establish eye contact, and turn around and look at the clock.

Say "sorry I'm not getting a good connection" While wearing one of these...

You're right. The same people have been asking me for a few years now. I've been nice about it with one person, the other I joke about it with but still, you'd think after hearing "I don't know, I'm not (wasn't) up there" a few dozen times they'd finally get the hint.

This is another thing, they'll ask me to tell him something. I'm not going to keep running upstairs, actually taking the slow elevators, and seeing if he's there to give them a message, so I e-mail him. Excuse me, you have e-mail, a phone to leave voice mail, two feet & hands to get you up there & leave a written message. I'm not high up on the totem pole but I'm also not your lackey.:snooty:

Oh, forgot to add that I LOVE the idea of just buying a Magic 8 ball and keeping it on your desk and asking it each time. Very subtle and very funny! If you are busy you could even just hand it to them with out saying a word. . .

Another vote for the Magic 8 Ball here! I love this idea! :thumbsup2

After they ask, I'll get up & start walking out while saying that I'll go check. Then get lost for awhile. Or I'll tell them I'll hunt him down no matter how long it takes. I'll scour the whole building & the streets around it. I'll find him for you, don't you worry.

Do you think I'm going a little stir crazy. I've only been back from DW for 2-1/2 weeks, seems like a year.

My boss works several states away in a whole nother office, and I still get asked if she's in today! Um... I don't know, let me hop on a plane and go check for you.

A coworker of mine has an office at the end of the hall and around the corner from me (receptionist). People are constantly asking me if he's in, where he went, when he'll be back. He is not even in my department, I have no idea!! Not only does he not tell me his every move, he doesn't carry a cell phone either and often comes & goes through a side door so I don't even see him.

In this building, the reception desk is on the 2nd floor and we also have offices on the 3rd floor. This means that 3rd floor employees take the stairs or elevator (both out of sight of my desk) directly to their desks. Employees also have staggered work hours, and I don't keep track of what everyone's hours are, there are 100 people here. And yet every day, someone will ask me if so-&-so is here. I don't know, I can't see through the ceiling!! Drives me nuts. I feel your pain, OP.

I don't know why, but this thread reminded me of the Carol Burnett skits with Missuz ah-Whiggins (Mrs. Wiggins). Maybe I was thinking about that buzzer/intercom she had on her desk. Anyway, that would be fun - to have a fake intercom like that on your desk.

That would be good, then I can answer myself in another voice pretending to be my boss.

Or I could whip out my cell phone, flip it open, say hold on, I'll go check, then say "Beam me up Scotty" into the cell phone. Then turn to them & say, my that transference thing is getting faster & faster, hardly seems like I left. Oh yes, he's there, do you want me to have Scotty beam you up?

People ask me that when my boss' office light is off and the door is closed. I usually say "yes, he's in there waiting to yell 'boo' when someone opens the door". Another thing I do - I will start to look inside silly things like the pencil cup or desk drawer calling my boss' name.

My first job out of college was a receptionist and one of the big bosses called and actually asked me to "hunt down" her secretary no matter what! She then said to check for her in the bathroom. I don't think I found her till hours later and I was told it was not the first time her boss did that to her.
