I want to go to Disney Oct. 18-23. We want to stay at BCV. I need a 2 bedroom and a studio.

I called MS this morning. We got the 2 bedroom, but the studio is unavailable for the 18th and the 23rd. So I booked the studio at WLV for the week and waitlisted for the night of the 18th.

MS suggested that I book the entire reservation at WLV and waitlist both rooms for BCV. Here my question: would it be more likely to get the studio for the two nights we need off the waitlist, or both rooms for the entire week? If the studio doesn't come off the waitlist then we will have to move the 2 bedroom anyways b/c we want to be together. If I wait too long I probably won't get WLV (our second choice).

Should I put both rooms at WLV and hope to get both off the waitlist for BCV? Or keep the 2 bedroom at BCV and just hope for the studio comes off the 2 nights we're missing?

I asked my husband this question this morning and his response was, "I have no idea what you just said. Ask your Disney friends." So "friends" what do you think???

If you want to be together I would just Book at VWL both ressies and waitlist for both for the whole ressies at BCV this way you will be together no matter.

BUT

Did you check for the studio at BWV - just across the water and a short walk to BCV - or maybe both at BWV? We have stayed here many times and it is a wonderful/beautiful resort and close to Epcot too.

Waitlist are funny some folks always seem to have them come through some never get them and me - 60/40 split in my favor:confused3

Probably not much help - sorry

I did check BWV. No luck there. The studio is not available. Thanks though.

Actually, I don't think this is true. If you WL for 2 rooms, one may come thru (say, the 2 BR) and you will still be on the WL for the other. My understanding is that your cannot WL on a "both or nothing" basis.

While a WL for 2 nights at the BCV may come thru, this is by no means guaranteed.

If you want both rooms to be at the same resort, the only way to guarantee this is to book the resort that has both rooms available now.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

It really depends on the premium you put on BCV vs staying all together. If you had enough points to book BCV 2 BR and the VWL 2 BR plus studio, that would be best. Otherwise I'd likely take the 2 BR at BCV and book ANY days available at BCV then WL the rest. But you might not get it and then you'd have to try to get something, anything, last minute. If you book VWL, I wouldn't even WL because you might get one at at time and have the same issue. You can book VWL and keep calling to see for BCV or BWV.

I'm new to this, but what about a cash reservation at BCV for the 2 nights you can't reserve with points?

Could you share the 2 BR at BCV for the two nights, waitlist for the studio? Or are you over capacity? Couldn't do it for the whole trip but maybe just for the two nights. I think the idea of cash reservation is fantastic as well.

MS "selling" rooms to CRO that can be reserved for cash tops my reasons for not buying DVC until I better understand the complete reservation process.

I would be interested in knowing whether rooms are available for cash reservations.

MS does not "sell" rooms to CRO. Rooms are transferred to CRO when members trade out of DVC (for example, a cruise). The income from the CRO rental goes to pay for the trade out. They also send empty rooms to CRO at 60 days, with the income going back to the members as a dues credit, but those rooms can still be reserved for points. Plus DVD (Disney Vacation Development, parent of DVC) owns some points that they rent through CRO.

I have posted and replied many times about the relationship between point reservations and cash reservations. Your reply includes new additive information for me.

It may sound politically correct to say MS transfers the room to CRO and income from the CRO rental goes to pay for the trade out. MS and CRO are separate and distinct business units. Accounting procedures require the transfer be assigned a dollar amount, the room gets sold, money changes hands.

Every time I read a post about a DVC owner unable to get a point reservation from MS, but discovers they are able to get a cash reservation from CRO, my doubt level climbs about my future DVC ownership goals.

Right now I can go online and reserve a deluxe villa thru CRO at 11 months.
I suspect the MS transfers rooms in anticipation of future trade outs rather than based on waiting until a trade out has occurred.

Also, in order to generate the appropriate income needed to pay for trade out, CRO must be able to rent the room. Transferring rooms during periods of low demand that remain unsold will not generate the needed income.
CRO must transfer rooms during periods of high demand in order to insure they get sold.

At least once per month someone posts and asks what the hardest rooms are to get 11 month reservations or 7 month reservations. I would love to see a report that lists monthly occupancy by reservation type.

If I choose to buy BCV or BWV so I can get a room during the Epcot F&W or BLT so I can get a room during Christmas, I would like some assurances that I can get a point reservation from MS before rooms get transfered to CRO because they are high demand rooms and easy to sell.

Your reply is the first reply that included the points that DVD holds (from ROFR purchases?) Based on your input, I would like to know that DVD isn't cherry picking the best weeks out of the year and transferring them to CRO before the 11 month window opens for point reservations.

The OP is using the 7 month window so in the pool with everyone else now. Not all units are sold. DVD retains a small percentage of units at each resort.

Ownership is not for everyone and one should have a firm grasp of the system to manage expectations. That said, I've owned for 8 years and as long as I use the 11 month window, I have never had an issue.

I too would fill the nights with cash and waitlist. Remember that BLT is open also at that time. I would choose that over VWL if available because of the monorail.

"People act not in accordance with the truth but the truth as they perceive it to be."

I feel DVC owners who love their their vacations and WDW perceive only the best about their situation. All the rules and regulations exist only to benefit the them, the DVC owner.

I perceive Disney as a corporation with the goal of making money. The rules and regulations exist to benefit the Disney corporation.

LIFERBABE, I completely agree I am trying to reach a practical understanding of how the rules and regulations might effect me if I purchase DVC.

Yes you are right. I have not been thrilled at all with all the changes and DVD is out to make money. I stopped drinking Kool-Aid when I was a child:goodvibes
But if you have a firm understanding of the rules and regulations, you continue to work the program to get the most from it.
Perceptions can hold you back or allow you to vacation freely in larger accomodations. We all make our choices.

This has been talked about many times on DIS and other similar places. Cash rooms come from cash equivalent trades such as DCL, breakage inventory, unsold developer inventory and ROFR points DVD owns. There is no way to know for sure they are violating the rules but even if they are not, they have an unfair disadvantage if they chose to use it without violating the rules. Assuming they are following the rules (home resort priority for the points and reserving the same as any other member), they still could book at 1 sec when the reservation window opens. My past info has suggested they don't do this but you never know.

I agree with the other posters that said to book the BCV studio for the nights that are available, and then do cash reservations & waitlist for the missing nights.

As to the other topic that has grown from this..... I do get somewhat upset that villas aren't available for points, but can be rented thru CRO for cash to anyone. But what I'm extemely upset over is when guests make reservations at a value resort, which a great deal of the time are deeply discounted or associated with free dining.......and these people are then upgraded to a DVC villa. Many times to a 1 bedroom, not even a studio!! Extremely upset is putting it lightly.
