We rented a house in Orlando for March 3-10. We nee a place to stay on the 2nd.

My husband is a grump. His idea of a vacation in Disney has aways been a week at the Polynesian, but being that we are NOT rich, and have 3 little ones, that was impossible. So, he is being a grump and everything I plan he has a problem with. So... I am looking for a place to stay for our first Friday night. Something cool that has stuff for the kids to do or see. Character dinner?? Under 200 a night? I was even looking into the Disney Resort hotels, but I don't know which is best or which is worth the money. This is our FIRST EVER family trip to Disney!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS!!

You could look into renting points from a Disney Vacation Club member...Look in the Disboard Vacation club area for information, Just a thought.

Hi...for a fun surprise I would wait until about Feb 15 and go to www.priceline.com and bid $100 on a RESORT level hotel in the Walt Disney World area...some great properties including Gaylord Palms have been coming up a lot...GP is the coolest hotel around...

These rooms are often $250 to $400/night that pop on Priceline Resorts...

Give it a try...we have never been disappointed in a Disney area Priceline Hotel...

Better yet, get a Motel 6 for him and the resort for you and the kids!!

Ted

I've been seeing low introductory rates of around $69/night for the new beautiful Rosen Hotel called Shingle Creek. It is by the convention center. You will probably be tired of the parks by the end of the trip and hanging out at a beautiful resort would be a nice change.

That's just what I thought too!! That or let him plan his own last night. :thumbsup2

How does the Vacation Club work? I was looking at the other board and they were saying like $10 a point or something - and that you would need like $300 worth or something to stay in one of the resorts. Is it any cheaper renting points from a VC member than it is to just make a reservation on my own? I have no clue how it works. Thanks!

I WOULD LOVE FOR HIM TO MAKE HIS OWN PLAN!!! Let me tell you how hard it has been planning a trip with someone who has nothing contribute except complaints! At least our friends are going to be with us for the week so I have 2 other people as excited as I am...had it been with just him and the kids it would not be half as much fun - he is a party pooper!

if he likes Polyn - he might like VWL - but March is almost peak season and is not cheap - especially Sat prices

the 1-bedroom would be $600 on Fri or Sat - but Sun-thur $300 each night.

OKW would be $540 fri or sat - Sun-thur $220 each night for a 1-bedroom.

the Gaylord is a wonderful hotel.

there is also a Ritz_carlton

you use to find good prices on expedia - but I haven't seem any lately

there is also a JW marriott (by the Ritz-carlton)

those are probably the 3 best hotels - non-disney

a bit older but still pretty nice
Hyatt - about 2 miles from WDW

marriott world center about 1 miles (might be less)

renassiance at SW - next door to seaworld

you can look on

What about the Nick Hotel. Tons for the kids, DH can stay in the room. No character dinner but lots going on in the mall area and nick shows at night if you get tickets (free) from guest services. If you look around you may be able to get that in your price range. Good luck!

It would be a little disappointing going from a Disney resort the first night, to an off-site house for the rest of the stay. Depending on your arrival time, there may not be much time left in the day to do much at the hotel anyway.
I would look for a hotel that has a fun pool area for the kids. Maybe something close to Downtown Disney so you can spend the first night on Disney property. Buena Vista Palace is located on Disney property across from Downtown Disney (You can walk). They have a nice recreation area with lots of room for kids to have fun. They even have Disney character breakfasts and complimentary bus service to the Disney theme parks. Check out the website and check rates at Expedia for locations at Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Tell him to get his butt out there and work some overtime (or get a second job) so you guys can afford to stay at the Polynesian if all he can contribute is gripes and he wants that so bad!
