I need some suggestions. I would like to buy a Graduation gift for a boy who is going away to college, but I only want to spend only $25.00. I really don't want to give him cash or a gift certificate. Any ideas. :confused3 Girls are so much easier to buy for.

a basket (or plastic tote) full of snack foods, gum, candy & those tubes for flavoring bottled water.

I know you don't want to give cash or gift certificates, but that is probably what he would appreciate the most. How about buying him a gift certificate to the college bookstore with the suggestion that he buy himself a school hoodie with it, or something similar? If he doesn't get that, he can always put it toward a textbook.

My son just graduated this year as well, and he really appreciates the money he has received, since college definitely isn't cheap! :)

You could get him $25 in quarters and wrap it with a small bottle of laundry detergent and Bounce! :laundy: Sometimes college-age boys need reminders about doing their own laundry!!! :scared1:

Bear with me, my mind just went Pffttt..on the REAL word this is called. A daily planner type thing. Has the months of the year in it with day squares big enough to write more than one itty-bitty thing in and is book-sized so they can throw it in their bag to take to classes. My DS lived by his freshman year. They have so much going on, they really need something to write it all down in and keep track of. Assignments, due dates, meetings, parties etc....

Some kind of wipe board to put on the outside of his dorm door. The ones that have wipe board on half and cork board on the other half are very popular. They write messages to each other on one side and stick pictures on the other side.

I know you said no GC's, but one to Wal-Mart, Staples or the local grocery store where he'll be is really appreciated once they get there.

If you know him well and his parnets have a sense of humor, you could make him a "hang-over kit". Tylenol, ice pack, crackers and ginger-ale. Seriously, a care package of health items is great. He will get sick, and no one wants to go to health services when they've got diarrhea. Imodium, Tylenol, Pepto, cold medicine, Band-Aids etc...are all great to send him with.

My laundry at one school was free, the other school it was on an electronic card. :)

I like the basket of his favorite candy/snacks, though it will be gone before he gets to school. A care package of tylenol, pepto bismal, nyquil, etc. + a first aid kit would be great!

Thanks for all your suggestions!!!!

I got a little impatient and I had to get it today, so I looked up his College colors before I went out to TJMaxx.

To my surprise, sitting right in front of me as I walked through the doors, as if someone placed it there for me.

Was a Under Armour Duffel Bag in his College colors. Large enough to be a weekend bag or a large sports bag and the price of this Duffel Bag was......... drum roll please........ $20.00!!!!! :woohoo:

Wonderful find. My son graduated in June and we have so many invitations and parties to go to. I bought towels for the college bound ones. Figured it would get them started on dorm supplies, and Kohls had amazing deals on them!

OP, sounds like you found a great gift. My nephew just graduated from HS and he received money for every gift but two: One non-money gift was a digital camera from his grandma, and the other was a gift certificate to Jiffy Lube. He was really excited about that gift certificate! So it's nice to get a few gifts besides the cash.
