I have an HP that is 15 months old. On March 3rd, I renewed and upgraded to Norton 360. On March 5, I had to take the computer in for repairs because of "redundancy" issues. The browser would open but would not browse, or in some cases never open. The repairman cleaned the registry and I got it back March 9. Fast forward to this past weekend:

*computer has been running for several hours or all day when these events occur

*have always been able to run itunes and AOL/Internet Explorer at the same time

*Saturday night: teen age daughter downloaded a song from myspace (please, no flames, I have already given her the riot act for it), at the time she had IE open to myspace, AOL was open to something, and iturnes was open but not playing
-uploaded song to itunes and then closed the IE myspace window
-listened to song on itunes and closed itunes
-pulled the AOL window back up and typed in myspace then the computer began opening multiple windows in Internet Explorer (which was closed)
-the opened windows displayed the myspace address but the actual window was blank
-72 of these windows opened

*At that point, computer froze completely. Couldn't shut it down at all. Finally, just had to unplug and leave it alone.

Sunday and Monday: Computer was fine

Tuesday:
*Internet Explorer never opened at all

*AOL and itunes were open. Only one window at a time with AOL.

*Itunes was playing, and it closed correctly

*pulled AOL back up, typed in myspace, watched videos and then in the middle of a video, IE error message windows appear with myspace at the top but nothing on the window

*all windows finally closed but computer wouln't shut close out of AOL-wouldn't shut down properly because AOL wouldn't close-unplugged again

Wednesday
*itunes and AOL open

*itunes playing with one IE window open-myspace being the one

*then multiple IE windows open with fatal error message

*mtv.com pops up to a black window (no one had been on this website for the past 24 hours)

*computer totally freezes EXCEPT itunes continues to plan and operate properly all the way to end of play list but won't close

*unplug computer, let it rest a bit, restart works fine

*back on AOL-ready to shut down computer-go to start and shut down

*everything is shutting down and then 3 windows pop up that give an Adobe fatal error message then it goes white

*finally, computer shuts down

This morning, computer runs fine and shuts down correctly.

I ran a full Norton antivirus last night (Norton 360 was removed March 5)-nothing found

When it opens multiple windows, anywhere from 35-72 windows will open. When you try to close or shut down, more windows open.

I have a call in to the repair guy. This computer is capable of handling itunes and multiple other tasks at the same time. I'm at a loss. After spending $160 3 weeks ago to clear the registry, I certainly didn't expect this. I'm open to any and all suggestions. My girls are 16 and 13 and we are using the computer constantly when we are at home.

Have you checked for spyware or a virus? When my computer (especially IE) slows down, it is usually due to spyware. My son is almost 11 and goes to free game sites - I think this is how I get it.

Try downloading AVG anti-spyware, Spybot S & D, Ad - Aware, 3 very good free reputable anti malware spyware programs. You may also want to try Windows Defender, a free download from Microsoft.

Those may clean up any malware, trojans on your PC.

Good luck

I just spoke with my computer guy. He wants me to run the computer just as we would normally run it until Monday with ONE exception: NO myspace. That is just fine with me since I think it's evil (;) ). Then, I am to let him know what happens.

I also suggested deleting the song that she downloaded to see if that would help. He wasn't very encouraging about that, but he did say to try and see. At this point, I'm open to anything.

I have done a good bit of reading and am somewhat skeptical of Norton's ability to find virus, spyware, etc. So, do I need to download the Norton Removal Tool, remove Norton and then try another spyware removal?

Is Norton your anti virus program? If so and you remove it you should replace it with another AV program. There are several free programs that are good ones. AVG, Avast and Avira AV productsare all free

Yes, I do have Norton Anti virus and ran a full scan last night. It found nothing. I did have the Norton 360 removed but am still using the Norton antivirus, although I'm definitely considering using something else.
