Good evening,
My family & I are going to Disney World in May 14-20. My family is coming up from Miami & I am flying in from Oklahoma. My niece is turning the BIG 1 the day after we leave. We have a day off in the middle of our vacation, the wife & I want to surprise my brother & his wife for her birthday.

What ideas can you, members, throw out to me? I was wanting to do anything that will consist of us all be together. It can be something big or small, at the parks, the resort or anywhere. Just anything. I just need ideas. Thank you for any input.

What about a fireworks cruise? At 1, my daughter was amazed by fireworks though I understand that not all little ones are. An in-room celebration package or gift basket from Disney Florist would make for a nice surprise too. They have already assembled gifts as well as a build-your-own option. Your niece would probably loving coming back from lunch or dinner and finding balloons, a new stuffed animal, Mickey Ears, etc. in her room.

Just keep in mind that if you are staying that the Animal Kingdom lodge balloons are not allowed.

What about doing a character dining somewhere? Chef Mickeys for breakfast in the Contemporary, or Crystal Palace in MK for Winnie the Pooh and friends, just to name a couple.

We are staying at the Art of Animation Nemo Suite.. We do have character dinings every night: Chef Mickey, Tusker House, Garden Grill, Crystal Palace, Cinderella Royal Table, and Sci-Fi Dine. Thanks for the idea. I am trying to do something simple w/ jus the surprise being the main event. Just not really sure, is there anything at downtown Disney?

How about ordering a special birthday cake to be delivered after one of your meals? Never done it myself, but I have heard of it being done.

At DTD you could have a special personalized t-shirt made to mark the birthday.

That is a great idea I will look into this and see what cakes are available. Thank you.

To commemorate the big event, you could get a "Happy 1st Birthday" t-shirt or onesie and take it with you. Put it in a gallon ziplock bag with markers and leave it with the front desk. All the characters will sign it and your hotel staff will return it to you on check out morning.

Please be sure to include a thank you note and maybe some treats or small trinkets of some kind. Also, if there are any favorite characters, mention that in your note as well. This would be a wonderful keepsake for your niece (and her mom! ;) )

Also, be sure to ask for a Birthday Button when you check in. While at 1 your niece may not comprehend all the CMs telling her Happy Birthday, you never know what other kind of magic can come your way!

If you do this, make sure they are fabric markers so they won't fade! :)
