Help name my new kitty

On Saturday morning I walked outside my apartment door to see the cutest kitten. DH tried to tell me not to pet him but I did, and it was over. We were on our way out to run errands and he tried to follow me outside. When we came back, he was still there so I knocked on all of my neighbors doors to see if anyone knew anything about him.

It turns out that on Friday night, one of the neighbors saw someone dropped him off with food, water and a towel. We left a note on the towel saying that the cat was in our apartment and took him and his food and water and put him in quarantine in one room. Well it's two full days since the cat was dropped off and it doesn't seem like anyone is coming back to claim him, so we are considering him ours.

He needs a name. I was leaning toward Binx (the black cat in hocus pocus) but everyone keeps asking "like Jar-Jar?" yuck, hadn't thought of that. So I'm entertaining other suggestions. Help!

He's sooooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!! I love kittens. I like the name Acadia....I went on vacation in Acadia National Park this summer so I thought that would be a cool name for a cat.

all sorts of names come to mind:

Precious (of course)
Princess
Blackie (ick, can I take that one back?)
Casper (can't see her in the dark)

And I'm trying to think of the name of some character with really big eyes - the kitty has HUGE eyes!

Or maybe some Egyptian name, kinda makes me think of the cats who protected the Egyptian palaces hundreds of years ago.

Cleopatra? (Cleo for short, of course)

I would call him "Hobo" (since he's been kind of down of his luck).

We, too, adopted 2 strays.

My first black cat was "Mystery". I now have one named "Salem". He's adorable!

Casper was the first thing that came to my mind too!

My SIL used to have a cat. She couldn't think of a name, so she called him "Kahmeer". You have to say that out loud to get it.

I like Salem too. Pilgrim?

Thanks for all of the great replies. Pilgrim is especially cute given the holiday (but I think would be better if he had some kind of white around his neck/chest). Kahmeer is cute too (yes, I had to actually say it to get it!)

A friend suggested Bagheera from the jungle book, which is a bit of a mouthful but I decided I could live with it with the nickname "BeeGee" or "Beege" so i think that's what we're going for (and DH likes it too).

I appreciate all of the suggestions!

Just wanted to say congrats! We just took in a stray kitty a few weeks ago too! She was injured and I think they just didn't want to mess with her. I think our two babies would look wonderful together because mine is almost solid white.

They grow on you real fast, don't they?!

He sure does grow on you fast. We brought him to the vet this afternoon and he is FELV/FIV negative but has fleas and tapeworm. He was wearing a flea collar when we found him so we suspect his previous "owner" knew. How sad if he was discarded for something as easy to fix as fleas (doesn't look like he'd been to a vet or anything for it since they would've given him something more useful for the fleas).

Thanks for all of the great suggestions! If we ever have another black cat show up on our doorstep, I will remember them (DH would say "NO MORE CATS ON THE DOORSTEP!" this is our third cat and I think three's enough!)
