we are planning on going to myrtle beach august 14 to the 21st. we are looking for a 3 or 4 bedroom condo. has anyone stayed in myrtle and can recommend a nice clean condo for a reasonable price ($1500 for the week or less). I know we waited last minute but are hoping to maybe find a good deal.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom at Compass Cove resort before and it was nice. I know they have 3 bedrooms available. It is on the quiet south end of the beach near the state park. Nice pools, too. Check their website for deals. You are going near the end of summer, so there should be some discounts. On the north end we stayed at Dayton House, which is family run and have not sold out to the big guys. They also have larger condos I believe. We liked this location also. Dayton House has nice pools and a website too. They are both right on the beach. Stay out of North Myrtle Beach, in my opinion. Too far away from things. We stayed there once and weren't impressed. ;)

We (DH and I) live in NC and have been going to Myrtle Beach since we were kids! We have stayed all along the NC/SC coast, but I think our most memorable trip was the one last year in Surfside Beach, which is just south of Myrtle. Still close to everything in Myrtle, but without the overcrowded beaches/ammenities.

We did rent a house on VRBO (our second time going this route). It was wonderful! It was in a gated community and even had a golf cart for us to use. Now we did pay more than $1500, but I know there are lots of condos and houses on there to pick from. Just make sure you talk with the person who owns the property and also make sure they have a contract outlining all of the details and responsibilites. We had no problems at all!

I do disagree with the PP that said to stay out of North MB. We have stayed there often and even in Cherry Grove. It is really what you want out of your vacation. If you like to be in the "action" then staying right in MB might be best for you, but if you want to relax a little, stay in one of the smaller towns (Surfside Beach, Cherry Grove, NMB) they all have something to offer and are not far from MB.

I just received an email for Long Bay Resort, advertising up to 35% off after 8/15. We stayed there a couple of years ago and the 3 bedroom condos were great! It is on the north end of Myrtle Beach, but not North Myrtle Beach. Shopping and restaurants are very close by. This company owns several properties and probably has discounts with all of them. Good Luck!

We always stay in NMB. We used to stay in MB, but it's just too busy. With NMB, everything is less crowded. I would NEVER stay in MB again. We stayed in Atlantic Breeze for the past 2 years on good deals. Start calling the smaller condo rental places and telling them what you want. My mom was able to negotiate a great rate this year and last through a rental agency.

We have stayed twice at Litchfield Beach resort.:thumbsup2 It is just south of Myrtle Beach on Pawley's Island. It is still close to Myrtle Beach proper but is not tacky and built up with high rises and other hotels. The beach was really nice and not crowded. :cool1:

We would drive up to MB to play the mini-golf courses or eat out. There are also restaurants near the resort. The resort also has a restaurant, Starbucks, etc. The resort also had a nice swimming pool with a lazy river and a kids' pool area too (ship and tipping water buckets). You can also rent bikes for a day or the week.

We stayed in a 4 bedroom condo that had been recently redone with a beautiful full size kitchen with granite countertops, nice dining The whole place was great. Many of the units are privately owned and rented out, so the decor inside will differ. Ours was in the Avian Forest section which was on the fairway instead of looking right out on the beach. The beach is still very close to the unit within a few minutes. (True minutes not exaggerated minutes). The Avian Forest section also had a small quiet pool too. So, the cost was really a good price. The resort also has oceanfront and oceanview units.

You can check out their website: www.litchfieldbeach.com.

Look under deals. I know right now they are offering 30% off their rates. I just checked your week and for a 4 bedroom unit for the entire week for $1,141. 95. This price includes all taxes. A 3 bedroom unit is listed at $1.061.45.

We go to Myrtle Beach about 3x/year. North Myrtle is MUCH better than Myrtle Beach. It is by no means far away from anything. You have Barefoot Landing in NMB, mini-golf, malls, Tanger outlet, tons of restaurants. It's close enough to drive to Calabash, NC for great seafood restaurants that cost 1/2 of what is does at MB & NMB.

I am also planning a trip to Myrtle Beach as trip to kick off senior year in college. Since we are in college we are on a strict budget. Do you guys have any recommendations on rooms that are nice and inexpensive. We would need just a 1 bedroom staying from August 16-19.

Thanks!

Try Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle. It's a great location, although not AT the beach...so you'll likely get a better deal.
