We are going to be in DLR June 29 and 30th for the first time. We live in Wisconsin so we won't be going back anytime soon. We have an 8 year old and an almost 4 year old. I convinced my husband that we just HAD to buy picnic lunches to see WoC.

Here was my plan.
Afternoon break at hotel
5:15: Catch the Pixar Parade
Eat our picnic lunch.
7:15: Aladdin
Then, head over to the waiting area around 8:15.

But I've been reading the boards here..and worrying. I told my husband last night that I was NOT sure our plan was going to work and people are saying we need to be there by 7:15 to get a view.
My husband is adamant that we do not wait for more than an hour to see a show when we could be riding rides. And if that entire waiting time is standing, he's going to kill me...and that is if we even get to see it! (He's tall, but I'm not and neither are the kids.....cause, well, they are kids!).

Help! What should I do? Scalp my tickets? Call a divorce lawyer??? :sad2:
Even if we get in line by 8, will we be able to see?

... buy a bucket of pixie dust and dump it on your husband. :wizard:

First off, YAY, your family is going to Disneyland! :cool1:

For the high demand shows at DLR, to REALLY enjoy them, your husband's rule ust may need to be broken. I try and try and TRY to explain to people on these boards that DLR is about more than just rides. It is not about checking off ride after ride, it is about having an experience while you are at DR that you look back on after your vacation and think, "Wow, we had a great time!"

When DH and I went to WDW (for the first time in 12 years) we did not see everything We missed some big stuff that we just didn't have time for somehow. Did we have an amazing, memorable trip? The BEST!

So....

World of Color is amazing. It's a very unique show that you just aren't going to see elsewhere. With it being new, and you going during summer, that means wait time. Now, you mentioned that you bought the picnic package, which I think is great. It has received good feedback, provides you with a meal, and the all important ticket for WoC so you don't have to deal with getting a FP. Good choice!

However, there is the need to get there a little early. How early? Well, depends on how much of a choice you want on viewing spot. The earlier, the better. And one thing you MUST understand about your fellow park guests is that Disney fans can be a "tad" fanatical when it comes to seeing new things. In other words, you have competition for those coveted viewing spots.

Yes, this means you will have to see Aladdin at another time, but it is shown frequently enough. It is also an excellent show and I would not skip it!

Explain this to your DH. Explain to him that you have to eat dinner at some point, so.... why not eat it while waiting in line for WoC. If he will wait in a queue for a ride, why not for a show? The show is longer than any ride. The memory is unique and the experience is memorable.

Of course your other choice is.... you wait while your DH takes the kids and goes on rides. But... LOL, that's not fair to you - and not how it would work in my family. :rotfl:

Hope this helps,
Dreams

No need to call a divorce lawyer or get your life insurance paid up..:lmao:

Here is the thing, I read and heard that if you order ahead for the picnic meals then the day that you see WOC you can get them. So you can eat them anytime you don’t have to eat them right before the show…. Maybe try moving some things around in your plan. It does sound like a great plan. :)

And umm what ever the time says on your ticket for WOC is when you should start to line up—at least that is what the CM that gave me my FP for Saturday’s show said. It is first come first view. I hope this helps.:3dglasses my other suggestion is to ax alladin and do it on a different day.....

here i also re-did your schedule..

Here was YOU’RE plan, but I rearranged somethings!

Afternoon break at hotel
go see Aladdin before 4pm!
Eat our picnic lunch
5:15: Catch the Pixar Parade.
Do quick dinner
Line up at 8:15 for show!

I'd go with this or somthing similar. I'd see Aladdin early before people migrate to the other side of the park. Try to fit in a ride around the peir as it is getting close to closing.

The big advantage of the picnic is starting you day how you want and not in a line for a WoC FP. TSMM and CS get big lines off the bat, so may as well get those rides taken care of early when it's easier.

The cheapest passes are blocked your days so you're plan could be doable. Husband can hold kids if he doesn't wan't the stand in line for the best viewing.

Thank you! Thank you! I was trying to work with OP’s schedule but also move things around and take things out that didn’t make sense on doing so late in the day—like Aladdin! The one thing I didn’t see that I added was dinner, her original schedule had no quick dinner!

**********

Here is another plan for you…

Afternoon break at hotel
see alladin before afternoon or at least before 3!
Eat our picnic lunch.
5:15: Catch the Pixar Parade
grab a quick dinner
go on a ride or two before PP closes at I think around 7:30!!
Then, head over to the waiting area around 8:15.

Notice how I put * go on rides before 7:30pm* yeah I just remembered that they start closing down PP like I think at 7:30pm to set up for the show, I was sitting there on Sunday and they kicked me and anybody else even near PP bridge at close to 7:30!

The last Aladdin show appears to be 7:05. So, if you go to that show, you'll be out by 7:45 and over to the viewing area by 8 even dragging 3 other people. That's an hour before show time and maybe things will have calmed down by the end of the month.

THANK YOU ALL!!!

So, my plan is doable then, you think???? I already bought the Picnic lunch for June 29th and we're riding rides in the morning, park hopping from DL when DCA opens to get in TSMM. Not sure if we can get our break in and Aladdin on the same day. or, we'd have to axe the parade in favor of an early Aladdin??? (My daughter is a Toy Story fanatic, would like to see the parade...)

We can pick up the picnic from 2pm to 8pm, right? So, we could eat the picnic for dinner....we'd pick it up around 5:30? Have I totally misunderstood this?

I think my husband is fine with waiting an hour if we can SEE the show, he was just concerned that we'll wait from 8 (or earlier) and then not see it. Some childhood trauma about waiting forever at Worlds of Fun for a country western concert and only being able to see some guy's behind the entire time....when he could have been riding rides. :rotfl:

If you all think we'll be safe getting over there at 8ish, I'll be thrilled. And I'm definately using the "it's an experience, not just getting on rides" mentality, love it!!!

You guys ROCK!!!

I would plan to pick up the picnic dinner before the Pixar Play parade and watch the parade while eating dinner. There have been many reports that the picnic is not a whole lot of food, but we are doing the picnic meal as our dinner on June 27 and have no concern that we will starve to death while at DCA! So, yes, it should be fine for dinner, although there may be an ice cream cone or light up cotton candy calling your family's name later in the evening.

After reading a lot of threads on this and other boards, unless DCA starts strictly enforcing the "No one admitted early policy", I would plan to get to your WOC viewing location at least by 7:30, possibly earlier. Stake out a spot close to rails, meet the people near you, then let one parent take the kids somewhere else (get snacks, go the bathroom, anything so the kids don't have to stand still), while the other parent guards your spot along the rail.

Best of luck and enjoy your trip -- Suzanne

Your gunna be fine. You kind of need to acclimate yourself to waiting at DLR it's just the way it is. You probably never have to wait in line for anything in Wisconsin. (lucky) We're so used to waiting, for movies, freeways, concerts, games, disneyland that we here don't even think about it anymore.

But...that being said, you'll be able to see the show even if someone tall is in front of you because its so big and high up, so don't stress about it. i will tell you be sure to get into or as close as possible to the center of the park. Its hard to see the video from the sides.

Enjoy your trip to California! and especially Disneyland.

Hey! That's not true..sometimes we have to wait...for cows! ;)
Thanks for the advice....we'll go with it and I won't stress anymore. It's going to be a fabulous trip! :yay:

I personally would get to the viewing area at or before 7:30 PM if at all possible. That should be early enough that you can find a pretty decent viewing spot. (Though I'd bring ponchos, just in case you get put somewhere up front.)

But maybe you can make it work with your husband! By my camera's time-stamp, the WoC pre-show started at 8:35. That is technically a show, isn't it? So I would try to get there at 7:30 by telling your husband that there's a pre-show that starts around 8:30. So it really is just waiting an hour and if you're going when the parks aren't jam-packed, then you can actually sit down until about 8:15.

IMO you also aren't exactly missing out on riding rides, either, since such a large portion of the park is closed for the show anyway.

Have a great trip, whatever you decide to do!

We did WOC the first night, and went to staging area, for us yellow it was behind Grizzy rapids, 90mins before the show. The wait was quite hard, everyone started to sit down for the long wait and we were repeatedly told to stand up and close together. If they are still doing this, your husband will not be happy. As soon as you are release into the area go the nearest rail and be prepared to fight for your space.
The first Aladdin show was 3:15 plan accordingly. The show is not to be missed inspite of the pro Laker jokes. My youngest 14yo when back the next day and did back to back shows cuz he thought it was so funny.
WOC is fantastic if you get a rail spot, with kids you gotta bite the bullet and go early to be one of first. Just my two cents

i waited 2 hrs last night for woc and it was totally worth it. show was amazing. we were at dca for a total of 6 hrs and didnt do any rides.

I would totally see the show and wait the time to see it.
We have ressies at AG and we will be in line by 7:15 to make sure we have some good spots to see the show. :)

Do you have to take a break back at the hotel?
maybe you could do Alladin during your break? you get to sit and enjoy a show, thats a break, right?

Have a good time!!!
