My son is just shy of 40" and upset that he may not be able to ride Soarin and BTMR. Does anyone have any advice to make him taller? I've read that it's easy to put girls in chunky-tall sandals, but boy's sandals aren't chunk-tall.
I'm not concerned that it's a safety issue, I'm an engineer and know what types of factors of safety are applied. Thanks!

I'm thinking sandals or tennis shoes with the thickest sole you can find and maybe a spiky hairdo?

My son just hit 40 inches this month, so we're psyched!

Also, I've read that they generally bump the height requirement up by a couple of inches as an extra precaution, so the restraints and such should work just fine for him.

Be ready for the lectures. ;)

If he is 39 without shoes, then you should be fine by your trip.

I've heard that you are the tallest in the AM.

That's about all I've got. Just keep feeding him lots of veggies! ;)

also be aware that even if you hit the 40" mark, you can still be subject to be measured multiple times and the measuring device may not always be 100% accurate and the CM's decision is final. you could realistically get on line at the end, walk all the way to the loading area and be denied. some attractions do provide a means to be able to re-ride without measuring once you get on the first time (kali is the only one that comes to my mind actually), so even if you ride once, it won't guarantee a second ride.

i know completely where you're coming from. i'm not telling you not to do whatever you want about it, but in addition to a potential safety issue, it could be a matter of the CM's job as well.

my advice, if you can't unquestionably hit the mark, focus on other activities and save the 'big rides' for next time.

Human Factors Engineers would clearly disagree with you and Disney is concerned about safety, if you are not.
Disney also buffers the requirements, since they also understand human behavior and the urge of some people to circumvent requirements.

Tough situation which millions of vistors face each year. Best advice is to plan accordingly and do not create false expectations.

My advise involves a rope, jeep and a tree if you need more info let me know.

Other then that maybe buy him some Heely's

Cowboy Boots. :thumbsup2

Teach him to stand tall... practice using good posture now! I wish my daughter was within an inch... but she's almost two inches below 40" (She's just over 38 inches now).

Within an inch... you ought to be able to find some thick soled shoes to bump him up an inch.

My poor DD is gonna have to wait til next trip,though.... :sad1:

Just know that if the CM sees big thick shoes he or she may ask that your son removes them. They will also measure to the top of the head and not the hair.

As well, i think that no matter what you do, it's up to the cm. They could let you ride, or they could just say sorry.

Thick running shoes. Also roll up a pair of socks and put them under his heels while he is wearing his shoes. It works,I did it to my DD.:thumbsup2

Just an FYI, the measuring posts at the MK were very definitely shorter than at other parks! My daughter clearly met the 40 inches at the MK, but then at EPcot she was a hair shy of it. I told the CM that she met the 40 inches at the MK and rode everything all day long there. He let her pass, but he did say the "40 inches" is shorter at the MK, and the other parks are more stringent. According to my measurements at home she was definitely 40 inches, so go figure. Disney even has their own system of measuring!:confused3

I will also warn you that Soarin's measuring device does not seem to measure 40" the way the other 40" rides do. My DD is 42 1/2" in her sneakers that she wore to the park. She was never measured for BTMRR, measured and clearly made it the one time she was measured at SM, TT and Dinosaur, but at Soarin they were VERY scrupulous about measuring her at both the entrance to the line AND again before she got on the ride. She was clearly over the height requirement at all the other rides, but at Soarin it seemed like she just barely made it, and I have seen other people post that on DIS as well. So I would be prepared in case he doesn't measure up for Soarin.

My husband stuck a stack of napkins in my daughter's sandals a couple of years ago for Space Mountain:rolleyes: ...she was actually slightly over 44 inches tall...my husband just wanted to make sure she would get on the ride...she was begging to go on 4 inches ago...

I think they do have their own system of measuring! My kids are taller at home!

When we went in 04 I thought my 2yo would be "close to the mark". Well, he easily met the requirements. He was gung ho to ride everything he could. SM, BTMRR, TT--in EPCOT, but I drew the line when DH wanted to take him on ToT

I don't want to get your hopes up but I'll bet the PP was correct when she said the 40 inch mark might be a bit lower than 40 inches.

Perhaps daily applications of the medieval torture device known as "The Rack" would help.

My mom also told me milk would make me grow tall, so maybe some cheese in his shoes?

Last Sept. on a trip to Dollywood.... Dishonest, perhaps- but I wore 6 inch + platforms at our wedding so I could actualy dance with my husband who is a foot taller than I- so I understand height challenged.
