Okay, DH and I are going on a roadtrip in September for a week. We are starting in PA and driving straight through to Hilton Head for 4 nights (I have a seminar/DH is golfing). I was thinking of making it a whole week and stopping at different places on the way home. I was trying not to plan it but my anal side is winning out :hyper: . Anyway, here's what I'm thinking:

Fri 9/17 - drive overnight to Hilton Head
Sat 9/18 - Wed 9/22 - Hilton Head
Wed 9/22 - Savannah, GA???? Never been so definitely looking for advice
Thurs 9/23 - Savannah (check out but will stay for most of the day)
Fri 9/24 - Colonial Williamsburg??? Never been either
Sat 9/25 - Baltimore, MD

Any thoughts... ideas... suggestions????

I haven't been to any of those place except for Williamsburg. I don't know what you paln on seeing but is 1 day in Williamburg enough? Sorry just a thought. :confused3

I know, I was thinking the same thing... maybe skipping Savannah. I know we are not going to be able to see what we want to but I thought it was a nice way to break up the 12 hour return drive :o

I live in Savannah, so if there's anything you want to know, just ask! There's lots to see here, mostly historic type stuff, if you like that sort of thing. Civil War era forts, homes, etc. Riverboat rides down the Savannah River, carriage tours, River Street, lots of great restaraunts as well....

Kim,

Savannah is less than an hour south of Hilton Head and could easily be a day trip for you while you are on the Island if you so desired. As you would be driving north to head home, perhaps Charleston would be a better choice. If I had to choose between the two cities for sightseeing purposes, I'd definitely choose Charleston. It is a wonderful city and one of my favorite places to visit. It's about two hours north of Hilton Head.

Start out at the Visitors Center; take a carriage tour to familiarize yourself with the city and pick which historical sites you might enjoy. Ride out to Magnolia Gardens or one of the plantations. Check out Charles Towne Landing, the site of the original city. This is one of my favorite destinations. Tour Patriots Point or take the boat out to Fort Sumpter. They have a wonderful new aquarium on the waterfront. There are so many things to do.

There are excellent restaurants in Charleston. I have enjoyed meals at Magnolia's and 82 Queen among others.

Savannah is nice but Charleston is a real jewel, in my opinion.

I can't help you out with Colonial Williamsburg. When we went to Williamsburg, we went to Busch Gardens and their water park so I'm no help there. Sorry.

Thanks everyone!!! I was just mapping it out and did notice Charleston.... I will definitely check it out.

Thanks again!!!

What about DC? all the museams and memorials are a lot of fun, and it seems to be right on the way.

tricia.

Just a half hour north, same county, is Beaufort,SC. Tons of history, Sherman never burnt it down. Lots of shopping and islands. Museums, culture and nature. Many people staying on Hilton Head pop over for the day. Easy to navigate around there too. If you husband likes military stuff, Pariss Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot is in Beaufort. That is where the Marines train. It's a pretty area, free museum that is very interesting and Thursdays or Fridays are the graduation ceremony, very cool to watch. Need any other info let me know.

HHI also has 2 great Outlet shopping centers.
