Help me understand and be a pro with Genie & Lightening Lane 😱
Background: Me (50f hip replacement 3/30/22) DH (53M) SIL (45f) MIL (76f/early signs of dementia-this is not an issue as I am trained to work with elderly dementia patients-will have scooter as will I)
I have questions that are strictly Genie/Genie+/LighteningLane related. I have a trip coming up 6/1-6/10 staying off property. We have everything ready. Now , I’m a park touring veteran and I’m so not used to not completely understanding the ins and outs of all things related to touring parks šŸ˜‚. I am completely baffled with G/G+/LL. Please help me so I can guide our family and have a great time. 😊

Forget G. It’s a waste of time.
G+ gives you the right to try to book the ā€œfast returnā€ (aka lightning lane) times for rides once a day. You can book your first at 7am. The second can be booked 2 hours after park opens or after you swipe in. There’s a strategy about stacking G+ reservations but let’s get this sorted out first. G+ reservations for popular rides can disappear almost immediately, so be prepared at 7am if you want to go this route.

ILL are individually paid LL for the most popular ride in the park, booked at 7am if staying in property or after entering the park if not. Realistically these won’t be available if you aren’t staying on property. You have more flexibility about return times. These also fill quickly, but which to prioritize depends on the park.

G+ works best at MK (lots of options and enough good rides that you can get a couple of picks). For HS you will realistically only get 1 tier 1 ride (slinky) if it is a decently crowded day, plus a show and maybe another ride. There are fewer options at Epcot and AK, so it’s up to you if you to spend the money for it.

One tip - we actually bought it for the first day at Epcot as a way to practice even though there wasn’t a ton of value. It helped a lot for when we were going for HS for real.

This should get you started at least. Once you are comfortable with this peruse the forums for more tips and tricks.

Yes, those are my impressions as well and a good summary. The Disney website has a list of which rides are included in the various paid options. Or you could try to wade through that thread on here that is already over 200 pages !!!

Does sound like many people also find this new system annoying and requires you to spend a lot of time on your phone searching for availability instead of just enjoying the park.
