Hoping to go to Boston in September for a concert at TD Gardens. Found a good rate at the Residence Inn Boston Harbor on Tudor Wharf. Google maps says this is a 10 minute walk. Can anyone tell me if this is a good walk or should I shell out another $200 to stay on the other side of the arena? Thanks.

Boston is a very walkable city, but be aware that you will be walking along some very busy roads. It won’t be a scenic walk.
Thanks for the reply. Is it a safe walk? We will be leaving the concert late. But I'm sure we won't be the only ones.

I’d take an Uber or Lyft back. It will still be light out when you walk to the concert, but dark after. It’s not a bad area, you do have to go into some less residential areas and a public park. I would not walk it at night. I work in Boston and live about 6 miles from this area.

It's a very easy walk in a safe area. Google Maps will show you walking over the Charles River locks as there is a designated footpath over it that a lot of people walk and it's right near a Mass State Police barracks.

Thanks so much. I was able to get tickets to the concert so we are going to make a New England trip starting with Boston!

Have fun! What time of year is your trip? i can try to make some suggestions

i would love suggestions! arriving in boston morning sunday sept 10. Eagles concert monday night. not sure if we will stay in boston tuesday night or head up north tuesday morning. we will fly home from bar harbor on saturday.

In Boston the freedom trail is a good walk. The USS Constitution is worth a visit. I work in Boston but don't go out to eat there so I’m no help with restaurants. Faneuil hall has lots of food spots. I haven’t been for a long time Boston tea party museum is fun. If you like history Lexington and Concord has lots of american revolution spots. Heading north to Bar Harbor, we did a puffin cruise, it was great! Maine Maritime Museum in Bath is small but fun. They do a boat cruise where we saw lots of eagles. Lots of seafood places in Maine. Maine botanic gardens is another great take. Look up the trolls! I will keep thinking!

I recommend a North End restaurant, especially if you like Italian. North End is within walking distance of TD Garden. Yelp and TripAdvisor have plenty of excellent restaurants.

Faneuil Hall has some unique shopping, especially touristy merchandise.

The weather tends to be summer temperatures still, but if it's a rainy day, Duck Boats or Old Town Trolley will give a nice tour of Boston. Boston has excellent museums like Aquarium, Science, and Fine Arts.

PRomano has some nice Revolution War site recommendations. Plymouth is also an excellent area if you're a history buff since Plymouth Plantation and Plymouth Rock are located there.

Cape Cod is my favorite location in New England, but Bar Harbor reminds me of Cape Cod if you don't have time.

I got tickets too, so excited.

Garden to Residence inn is an easy walk and there will be many others walking in the same direction.

Sorry I didn't suggest the aquarium, imho it is too small for the price. The Museum of Fine Arts is great. The Museum of Science is also great. I like the Franklin Park Zoo too. I didn't suggest the Cape because it looks like you are heading north after Boston.

Freeport Maine has outlets and the flagship LLBean store. There is a great brewery on the same road. I would probably stay in Boston for at least part of the day Tuesday. The Boston traffic is horrible at times, so pay attention to when you leave to head north. Avoid rush hour times, ask me how I know! We are less than 20 miles north of the city and it can take us 1.5-2 hours to get home.

I would second the North End. Limoncello has great Italian and Mike's pastry is iconic for cannoli. Back Bay is also a nice place to walk and Newbury Street is kind of our fifth avenue. I'd also suggest Harvard Square which is a cool area with some great shops and restaurants.
Be aware that it will be very busy in the city as all of the Universities will be back in session. Metro Boston has somewhere in the neighbourhood of 14-15 colleges so during the year the city is packed with students. It gives the city a young vibe but it can be quite crowded. Have a wonderful time in our fair city.

I prefer the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to the Museum of Fine Arts...the collection is smaller, so there is no guilt or rushing if you make it a half day visit. I will second the Duck Boat tour--it's a fun way to see the sights and figure out the layout of the city. It's been many years since we've been, so I don't know if these tips apply--the North End is a ghost town on Sundays with only a few restaurants open and the city seemed to shut down around midnight.
