Help me understand why the Disney Visa is a good thing...

I just received a Disney Visa offer-wanted to let folks know that while it does come with the $200 reward bonus, it also now has a $49 annual fee. From reading the previous posts, this sounds like a new thing.

There are now two different cards - one is the regular, no annual fee Visa, while the other is a Premier Visa with a $49 annual fee. There are some additional perks with the Premier, but for most people I saw talking about it, they didn't think it was worth the annual fee.

I took our old statements and figured out that we charge enough in the covered categories that on balance I will wind up with more in the Disney fund each year after taking the $49 out of the Disney fund, and, of course, the first year, I'll make quite a bit more than that, so I went for it. I think if I were new, I'd get a regular card my first year and then, when I got my yearly statement in, I'd do the math and see which would work out better.

:thumbsup2 Good for you! I love the designs on the Premier cards...I wish I could've made money on it, but my charges were too close to not being worth it for me to switch. I probably would've come out ahead for the first year, but not so much going forward.

One of the perks is that you earn 2% instead of 1%, so we're currently in the process of deciding whether or not the $200 plus the 2% is worth the $49 annual fee...

Another perk for the Premier is that in the first 90 days you earn 5% on the 2% categories and that includes your Disney vacation. I just upgraded b/c with the amount of gas we buy alone a year [$8000 last year *cry*] the annual fee is worth it and then found out the 5% for WDW vacations too. My final payment is due March 20. YEAH BABY!!!

Also they now don't round and your rewards are given in cents as well. So if you spend $2121.49 you now get $21.22 in dollars instead of them rounding down to $21.

Hmmmmm. Interesting. I still think my Alaska Airlines Visa is probably a better deal, but this is tempting.

I've had a Disney Rewards VIsa for years, and now that the premier visa has come out I've seen the offers for a $200 credit (or bonus or some way to give you $200) if you sign up. Does anyone know if this is only for new cardholders, or if you can get the $200 if you are upgrading?
