I told DH to pick up Signs the other day (Mel's in it!!!), and he mistakenly picked up The Ring. Well, we watched it last night! Holy Cow! Had to leave the lights on and turn the bedroom TV around!!!!!

Now I like a good scary moving but this one freaked me out, and totally confused me. How come the girl didn't get a "visit" from the ghost, but the guy did? They both went to discover the little girl's secret, so that's not it. Is it because she made a copy? At the end she makes her son make a copy (using his own hands on the machine) and she tells him he is safe now? HUH?!?!?!

Good ending to allow for The Ring II, I guess.

Anyone else confused on this one?

That's what my husband told me. She was saved by the copy even though she in turn killed someone else.

Did you watch the section labeled "don't watch this?" It kind of helped explain it to me.

The movie didn't scare me though. It just made me go huh?

That whole bit about her coming out of the TV freaked me out!

Thanks! - I don't think I'll go back and watch the Don't look Here thing. I'll just go on my merry way now . . . .

What a waste of two hours of my life. Ok well, DH DID have a nosebleed a coupla days later and he DID end up in the hospital on Day 6 but he's still with us. ;) No really, it's true, he did. For me, I think that the thing is the girl wanted her story passed along so you had to make a copy of the tape. Still thought it was stupid. Now SIGNS - that scared the crap out of me!

The Ring wasn't really scary, just creepy and disturbing.

I stayed up late watching it, and had a hard time falling asleep! I couldn't get the image of that poor horse trying to swim out of my mind!

There was a good website: www.themorganranch.com that did a good job of explaining the whole story, but whoever had the site has let the domain name expire.

I thought that The Ring was spooky but then I like to let my imagination take off when I watch things like this. I saw it in the theater by myself and really enjoyed it.

I also heard that the ghost wanted copies made to get her story out. That's why the lady was helping her son make a copy towards the end, to protect him from the ghost.

Okay - so the kids just turned our TV on and it blew!!!!!! How upsetting - I guess I'll have to wait to watch Signs as the upstairs TV doesn't do DVD!

Now if the blown TV turns itself on while it is broken and unplugged - I'll just gouge mine own eyes out!

The Ring was CREEPY!!! I had trouble sleeping after watching it. Yikes! i can't look at horses the same way again... I think it's one of those cult movies, where everyone talks about it so much you have to eventually see it. My friends were all pretty freaked out about the movie as much, or even more, than I was. But I think the consensus was that we all liked the movie.

I guess as long as you yourself made a copy of the tape, then you were safe.

The second time I watched it with my 13 y.o. son, I hit the pause button (we recorded it off of Pay-Per-View) on our PVR (similar to TIVO) and when I tried to hit play, the screen blacked out! And neither of us could figure out what happened!

We finally pressed the right buttons on the remote to get the picture back, but that was the first time anything like that ever happened!

Totally freaked us out!

I agree that it's a cult type of movie, because after I saw it, I wanted to find out more about the storyline.

I want to read the book now!

Ok so tell me, what was the firls story? I still don't understand the movie!

Anna Morgan was the mother and she bred thoroughbreds. She wanted a child badly, but kept having miscarriages. Anna and her husband went away for awhile (out of the country) and came back with Samarra.

The little girl was apparently evil, and it was never revealed where she came from, whether she was adopted, or born of Anna under mysterious circumstances.

Samarra, either out of jealousy and/or pure evil, projected images into her mother's mind. It was also believed that the little girl was also responsible for the deaths of Anna's horses. The little girl never slept, ever! They tried to evaluate her at a psychiatric hospital, but never came to any conclusion as to what her problem was. Anna tried to suffocate the little girl by placing a plastic bag over her head, then pushing her down a well. The girl didn't suffocate, and lived for 7 days in the well before dying. The last thing the little girl saw was as she was looking up from the bottom of the well. She could see a "ring" of daylight from the covered well at the surface. Anna eventually took her own life by jumping off a cliff by the ocean.

Samarra's ghost wanted her story to be known, thus the video tape. She used "projected thermography" of various images, a puzzle of sorts. If the person watching the video made a copy of it, their life was spared. (why- who knows.)

Bottom line, Samarra was a wicked child!

Its interesting how different people get different things out of the same films. Signs was perhaps the most boring movie I ever sat through, but The Ring scared the stuffing out of me.

The reason the woman didn't die is because she made a copy of the tape. The little girl spared anyone who made a copy because it allowed her story to be spread and let hger terrorize more people.

OMG! THIS MOVIE SCARED THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME!I have never been so scared EVER...my friend Mary and I went to go see it and when she came out of the tv...OMG...I was screaming and I was SOOOO close to crying...I was terrifyed driving home and then when I got home my bro and dad went to Target and I told them that if the phone rang while I was gone, I was grabbing my keys and driving somewhere...LOL
and then I made the mistake of looking on The Ring website to try to figure out parts of the movie...yeah it freaked me out ALL over again! lol

oh I've heard that The Ring 2 is gonna be about COMPUTERS! I'm sorry...if someone comes crawling out of the computer I'll be terrifyed to go online for a few days...lol

ok 20 minutes into the movie I stopped watch it but had to be in the room b/c I was folding laundry....

AN HOUR LATER...halfway through the fil....THE PHONE RANG!!! it was out of area..... I had to eave the room...I was sick

Tell me that WASN'T a horrific film??????? I've got ocean front property in Arizona that will tell you otherwise LOL

I took the kiddies to see Pirates of the Caribean, and then went and bought a new TV (to replace the blown one!). I bring it home, DH hooks it up and to test the DVD player connection - he throws in The Ring! I walk by just as that arm comes out of the well!!!!!!

I can't believe they will make a Ring II about a computer. If it's true - well, nice knowing all of you! I will be disconnecting and chucking my PC!

Hahaha this is really a very funny thread for me to read. Im not really scared by movies.. in fact the only movie EVER that has scared me is the exercist. And trust me ive seen them all im a big horror buff. Me and two of my friends went to see this at the theatres the first day it came out and i laughed through the entire movie where as my friends were terrefied and they watched about a fourth of the movie. Go Figure... They wasted six bucks but i throughly enjoyed this movied and and very excited about the next one coming out!!!
