Help me understand, please and thank you 😊

So, we haven’t been to Disney in quite a few years. I haven’t had time to read through all of the posts. I know that Covid has put a huge dent in reservations and the parks for now. My husband and I haven’t booked anything. Am I understanding that if we do not have a reservation, we wont get one? We are looking at late October this year. We also have Shades of a Green as an option (hubby a Marine). If we can’t buy tickets, even SOG won’t be of any help. I just need to be sure I’m understanding all of these changes.

Gonna be blunt about this: don't go this year. For folks like you who haven't been in a long time, it's just not worth the expense or hassle for the uncertainty and the severely pared down experience (no parades, nighttime shows, etc). You can't book right now for October 2020 even if you wanted to.

Wait until next year. A lot of the construction will be done, new attractions running, and things should be more settled in terms of longer park hours/more capacity and more likely return of entertainment. Plus next year is the 50th anniversary and there will be celebrations.

To answer the original question, it is not yet known whether it would be possible for you to book a trip. Resort and park ticket sales are suspended until "later this summer." Once that becomes available, you would still need park passes to enter the park. While those are not sold out for any dates in October currently, that might change. So you should check back after they announce a date to reopen resort and ticket purchases.

Thanks MomoTwins for your response. I’m keeping an open mind. We originally had a cruise planned for a very special wedding anniversary late May. Of course with the pandemic, that was cancelled. We rescheduled for early July, that was also cancelled. My husband has a very special birthday coming up in late October. Since all of our plans were squelched on the other 2 tries, we thought we would try for October! I am cautiously optimistic.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I just wanted to suggest perhaps looking around for some places to visit that are within driving distance of your house? We also had trips canceled in the spring and now summer. I have a milestone birthday WDW trip scheduled for November, but am already making alternate plans in case it falls through. I have found a few places around us and actually booked a trip for a resort about 90 minutes from where we live. It's nothing I would have considered a year ago, but now, I'm just looking forward to something that isn't my house and doesn't require me to cook. Definitely keep your eyes open in case they open more reservations for 2020, but you may want to have some other options in your back pocket just in case.

For what it's worth, we are now in the "final stage" of park pass booking for people who had existing tickets, and October availability is still wide open. If you are keeping on top of the updates and book your stay as soon as they open up the ability to make new resort/ticket reservations for 2020, things are looking pretty good for an October trip.
