Help me to understand the DVC Rental Schemes

Hello All.

My young family and I are hoping to travel to WDW May 2008. We are a rather large family of 6, children aged 5/4/2/1.

We was very much hoping to stay in a 2 bedroomed villa at the Disneys Beach Club Villas resort, we just love "Beaches & Cream" !!!

Can any you please explain to me the way to purchase the rental points from DVC members, or is there any one out there looking to sell ?

We are ideally looking for three weeks, and have been quoted very silly money from Disney direct !

To stay at a 2-bedroom at Beach Club villas in May 2008 for 3 weeks, you would need 942 points. You can rent points from an individual, although it is extremely unlikely that you will find anyone who has this amount of points available. The going rate is around $10-$11 per point so you would still be looking at $9420 minimum - quite a lot of money for 3 weeks' accommodation, although probably not as mucha s you were quoted by Disney.

Personally, I would look at staying somewhere cheaper for a couple of weeks (maybe the value resorts) and try to rent points for just the last week of your stay. If you stay Sunday thru' Thursday (ie not a Friday or Saturday night, it wil cost less).

By all means post a 'Reservation wanted' thread on the DVC Rent/trade board but, as I said previously, it is unlikely that anyone will have that number of points to rent (unless they're commercial renters maybe ) The only other thing I would add is that you need to try and get some kind of recommendation/reference if you do decide to rent. There is risk on both sides but if you manage to rent for the whole 3 weeks, that's an awful lot of money to lose!

That's what makes buying in to DVC a no-brainer (even though it took us years to cotton on ). You can recover the costs in just a few trips and you then have years of free accommodation to enjoy.

I could'nt agree more, we travel to Florida every other year and with such a young family this is bound to continue for many many years to come.

How do we apply to enter the DVC Scheme and is there different packages you can purchase ?

You can call DVC and join over the 'phone, or they will talk you through and answer your questions. Number to call is 407 566 3100 in the US.

No different packages, it is just down to the number of points you buy, pretty sure 150 is the minimum.

You can also buy resale DVC, that way you could buy at the Beach Club etc.
