help me to rationalize buying more points

I started out with 170 points in VWL. Added on 130 points at BCV because we love the proximity to EPCOT and October was impossible to get in BW or BCV for 9-10 days. My kids were in college and high school and it was just my DH and myself so a studio was perfect for us. Added on 30 more at both resorts a few years later - the ones who thought I was crazy (my children) for buying a time share in Disney now are 25, 27 and 29 and want to go. So we have enough points to give them a vacation if they want. We also booked for them for college graduation and honeymoon and still have for us and friends if we want to "treat" them. The disadvantage of adding on is that the price per point always was higher than when you first bought. Depends on how many times a year you want to go, the studio vs the 1 BR and looking down the road at your wants and needs.. It's nice to know that when the winters get to us with snow, ice and cold weather there is an escape with our points.

We did it!!! Added on 100 points at SSR. We were going to add at AKV, but the incentives at ssr were worth it! Thanks for all of your rationalization!!! I think we will LOVE staying in a 1 br!

I'm trying to rationalize a 50 point add on in AKV. Its not the initial purchase price, which we would pay up front, it's the annual dues. I really don't want to go higher than we're paying right now in maintenance fees. We pay yearly - maybe I should think about making that a monthly thing so I won't feel it at the end of the year.....

There ya go - justification!!!! I'll have to look into that!:lmao:

I can relate. We just recently added on for this very reason. We have 2 teens, boy and girl. DS doesnt mind a blowup mattress and lets Sis take the pullout. But as the family gets older, the teens need a bit more privacy(and so do Mom and Dad) so we decided to juggle pts around under different scenarios, and see exactly how many pts would be needed to stay in 1 beds for 2 trips from now on. We can handle the studios, but it is so much nicer for us to have the extra space, the wash/dryer, and a bit of extra peace of mind.

I wish I would have bought into DVC when it started. I had the oppotunity. DVC was a heck of a lot cheaper in price than it is today. So, look at this way, 10 years from now when the price of DVC is higher than it is now, you can pat yourself on the back!

:goodvibes
We, my DW and I bought more with the realization of a
longer and/or better room catagory for our stays.
Also, should you decide to visit more than once
in a use year, you could go off-peak times in a
studio perhaps 3 or 4 times!

Last year my MIL passed away and so we decided not to
go...so, we doubled our points and are using(depends on
our wait list) a.k.a. borrowing (maybe) for a Grand Villa!

P.S. "buy more points...you need them...the Mouse commands you!"

Does anyone have a link to the thread where members stated how many points they had? We just added on (again) and I am sort of nervous myself. I too, wonder if we're putting too many eggs in Mickeys basket. Seeing other peoples #'s might make me feel better!

We've added on several times and have not regretted it. It seems like whenever we are planning our trips, we wish we had a few more points to give us more flexibility. We have a family of 5 so we usually get a 2BR. I am generally a cheapskate when it comes to booking hotels, so having the additional points helps relieve the urge to try to squeeze into the smaller rooms. The larger accommodations make the trip much more relaxing. Especially when we come back to rest later in the day it's particularly nice to let everyone spread out a little and have some "quiet" time. For us, this really makes it more relaxing. We also like having extra points so that we can occasionally invite family to join us.

That is nice to hear because I was actually thinking maybe we were too old - we are in our early 40's to be buying now. Thinking to myself we should have done it 10 - 15 years ago, but honestly I never thought about it back then or had the money then either. Our kids are 7 ,12, and 14. I sure hope that they will still want to go when they are in their 20's too. We love Disney, but hope to enjoy it with our children for many years to come!
