DS (9) wants desperately to try MS. Its the very last thing I want to do--I get sick on SM. DH is saying he can't do those simulator rides cause he'll get sick too. So DS says he doesn't want to go it alone and is going to skip it.

Ladies--you can relate. If DH goes on it and gets dizzy or sick, he will spend the rest of the day feeling "strange", he may require more rest or even a nap at the hotel. You may be familiar with the condition he suffers from...its called "wimpy-itis".

So I'm thinking I will just go on it with him, and if I get sick, I get sick. I'll get over it.

But I would LOVE any recommendations for reducing the odd feelings while on the ride, and for a quick recovery after the ride.

Also--did anybody actually lose their lunch on it? Be honest.

My husband wants to go on it desperately too. We live here and are at the World almost every weekend. I too am a ride wuss....If we met up would your son want to go on it with my husband? He won't go on unless there is someone else to stay on the ground with my daughter and I.

ETS: I haven't been on MS but got sick after Star Tours...

I have not went on it yet (not sure if i ever will)... however, my step-father has went on it a few times.
Not as many people are getting sick on MS now that they've made some improvements. I would suggest taking some motion sickness preventative (dramamine) before attempting it... or make it the last ride of the day - also probably a good idea not to eat much before riding it. The first time my DSF went on, he had just finished a large breakfast - after the ride he had to go home and nap for 4 or 5 hours because he wasn't feeling well. The next time that he rode it... he didn't eat prior to the ride and he felt much better.
Just go into it with the understanding that you will be spinning in circles many times... at very fast speeds and take lots of dramamine :)
One other thing to try - My sister always goes over to the Coca-cola igloo after she rides MS... the cool air and the cold fizzy drinks help her feel better.

We were lucky enough to go on during soft opening, which I've now heard was a little worse then the ride today. I like rides, all kinds of rides. I'm the one that "has" to go on the Tea Cups w/ the kids. And now if I really think about the experience, it wasn't much worse then the first time on Tower of Terror. Follow the instructions, watch the screen, and sit and relax after, you'll be fine.
(Do it towards the end of the day- just in case)
We're taking the whole family in a couple of months, and I've asked if anyone wants to go, because they shouldn't go alone, and I'll go if I have to. So far no takers!! :cheer2:
:earsgirl:
Good luck!

Did not lose my lunch on it. :)

Just follow the instructions they give you. Do NOT look out of the corner of your eyes, or move your head to check on your son. He's fine. Even if he's not, there's really nothing you can do until the ride stops anyway.

Eat something. Don't go in with an empty stomach, but at the same time, don't go in having just eaten your weight in mickey waffles at Chef Mickey's either. Have a light something.

Take something to ease motion sensitivity. Meclazine, Dramamine, Ginger Pills....

Also - if you visit a water park, or the pool, or anything else where your head is submerged in water, be sure to clean out your ears. Use a Q-Tip and some peroxide if you want. Honestly? It's best to stay away from MS altogether on a water park or pool day. If there's any water in your ear, it can throw off your Equilibrium and get you to feeling woozy.

I honestly didn't have a problem with it at all. My wife got a little dizzy, but felt fine a short while later.

The first time on it I was REALLY worried, I ended up going to Mouseworks and buying Dramamine, I was perfectly fine. Since I knew what to expect I didn't worry about the next ride and all was well. :)

Good luck!

PS I'm a HUGE ride weenie.

I'm glad you posted this because I'm in the same boat. My daughters REALLY want to ride this and want me along. Dramamine is a great suggestion and one I hadn't thought of yet. I certainly don't want to stress test those nice new barf bags! :crazy2:  :scared:

My advice, and I have and will only do this ride once mind you - After the motion sickness meds...look straight ahead - focus- and remember those childbirth breathing techniques! :rotfl2:  :faint:

How long is this ride? And do you think those Sea-Bands would help?

I hate to take Dramamine cause it makes me as loopy as the ride might.

I am trying to get back to my inner child that would not be afraid of this and would look at it as an adventure.....I can't seem to find her. She's probably sitting at Cindy's in air conditioned comfort.

Take the advice already given - it is all great. Absolutely keep your head back and look straight ahead. For me, there were only two parts that bothered my stomach - the lift off sequence and another bit a couple minutes later. Most of the rest o the ride wasn't so bad and I didn't have that queasy feeling. That said, I don't really care for the sensation this ride gives my stomach and have opted to sit this one out now - went 2x in a row on first trip that it was open - DD, DH and my Dad all love it though! I don't know of anyone having gotten sick on the ride the few times we have gone.

:rotfl: :rotfl: You are too funny!!

I don't have any advice, I get motion sickness easily but I really want to try MS. I think the anxiety I feel about it will be worse than the ride itself!

When did they change MS to be less "vomitous"..LOL? We were there in June of '04. I was waiting at the exit for dd and dh to get off and many adults were sitting down after the ride to gain composure and one threw up. I think the ride is harder on adults. I know it was nothing to my daughter; she thought it was fun and wondered why it stank at the exit:sick: . Kids can spin around and around and think it's fun. I remember those days. Now it just takes one spin and I've had enough. What's with that? Oh, yeah my question was: When did they change MS to be less "vomitous"?

Oh, how I can relate. DH would be whining and moaning. Yet, if I am  :earseek: :sad2: ...life goes on.

I was telling dh about MS and I said that I was afraid to go on it and ds heard and is now afraid of going on it. YAY!
