DW & I are heading back to The World in early February. No kids this trip. I originally made ressies at POP w/code BDP. In December, I changed to AKL w/pool view. I decided not to tell her. So far, I've been able to keep it a secret.

I was thinking I might tell her on the way from MCO to AKL or maybe on the plane. We're using Murray Hill. Also, I thought I might talk with MH ahead of time to see if the driver could keep from saying anything until I told her. That's not a big deal though.

What can I do to break the surprise to her? I thought about doing something with pictures of animals. ??? I guess I'm not very imaginative...

For a snack in the car,, how about a box of animal crackers? LOL

What a sweet husband,, am going to go nag mine to surprise me like this now, ;)

One thing,, you do know that you won't have a great view of the animals with a pool view, right? You might do better to have a Savannah view, on Arusha Savannah. I don't know if it's much more money than a pool view, but it's definately worth it,, and very romantic :lovestruc :lovestruc

I like the box of animal cracker idea !! I would wait until I was in the car to pop the surprise - at that point she'll be officially in 'vacation' mode. How about a little stuffed giraffe, like a beanie baby one, in a little box or gift bag tied with ribbon - you could make a little card with a pic of AKL and write something romantic inside about your wonderful surprise ! We love AKL and I think it is a very romantic location, especially for anyone who is taking the time and effort, as you are, to make it that way - have a wonderful trip !

I think it would be great not to tell her anything at all... just wait until you pull up to the lodge! Make sure you talk to the driver out of earshot so she won't know... then she may think you have a crazy driver who went the wrong way.

I've thought of that. I'll decide when I call MH & see what kind of response I get when I ask if the driver can keep quiet about the AKL.

Yes, I'm aware of the $avanah view room$.

a little card with a pic of AKL

how about a box of animal crackers?

Thanks for the good ideas!

I love the animal crackers idea but my first choice would be not to tell her anything at all and just watch her as you drive up :)

You are a very festive guy!! Your wife will be THRILLED I am sure. Good Luck and ENJOY!

jimmiej,
What a great Suprise I did the same thing for my mother and sister in October :) I gave my mom a card that had a picture of AKL (That I had taken on a previous trip) on it and kinda photo-shopped us into it. It was fun I also did the animal cracker thing too! We did the Pool View at AKL and we loved the view...I was worried about not having the Savannah View, but there are so many places to see the animals around the resort...I don't think I would pay for the Savannah view myself.

This is what I was thinking. It will be a true shock then. What a wonderful husband you are!!

Hand her a pair of binoculars and tell her you found them in the carry-on and see if she catches on. We always surprise our kids with where we are staying. They are catching on with how many "wrong turns" we make. :earboy2:

I agree. Don't tell her. That would be the way I would want to have it done for me. Of course, my husband would never think to do something so neat. Have fun.

""I guess I'm not very imaginative..."

I beg to differ. Thats a wonderfully imaginative surprise already.
I wouldn't say anything either.

Just think about the curiosity and confusion when you start driving towards AK. Sounds very exciting.

You are awesome! What a great surprise!

You know, we paid for a pool view when we went in Nov and got a complimentary upgrade to Savannah view without even asking. this very well may happen to you, that said, I wished I would have kept the pool view...I think I would have liked that better. So either way, you can't go wrong!

If you made your own reserations, Disney may mail you some stuff as your dates get closer. We got 2 or three mailings for our Dec. trip and they had tips about the resort we were staying at. Just a heads up that you may need to intercept the mail.

Sounds like a great surprise. She's a lucky woman!! Have fun!!

What a super idea! What a nice husband!

I don't know if you two are wine drinkers, but South Africa has sensational wines. How about pulling a (well-wrapped) bottle of wine out of your carry-on bag as you get near to the resort and suggest that you open it in the room?

I like the other ideas, too, though!

:sunny:

What a great husband!! Did you make a PS yet? Make one for Jimko!!! The food is great!!! :cool1:

Why don't you tell her you've made a PS for dinner at Boma or Jiko and then after dinner say something like, (talk to the driver and maybe he can get your luggage in without her noticing) "It's so nice here! Let's just check in." I don't know - that might be really dorky, but I'd love it if DH did that for me.
