Something UNACCEPTABLE happened last Disney trip i was on. The Room maid (the name on the card was ********. dont know if it matters or not) Stole my little sisters swim top (shes only 10) Im not here to claim disney owes me or anything, its just that im going on another disney Vacation very very soon and well, i dont know if i can trust the room maids now :confused3 Has anyone else had anything stolen from them on a WDW vacation? Dont get me wrong, save the tomatos until u hear this sentence :duck: I'm not trying to get a bunch of people say they had things stolen from them and make disney look bad, thats the LAST thing i would want to EVER Do im only wanting to make sure its something that dosent happen often. im wanting to see how many people say that they had or they know someone who this happend to so i can know weather its safe to trust the room maids with my stuff based on how many "yes a maid stole my stuff" replys i get. im REALLY concerned because i take stuff that is REALLY important to me and cant be replaced at theses vacations and now disney has lost my trust. I want to trust disney really i do, but now i dont know what to believe  and before i get any replys asking if im SURE it was the room maid i can clarify that it was because the swimsuit was hanging up to dry and when we got back to the room it was gone :laundy: PLEASE HELP ME :(

Been many times and never had anything stolen. We are much more lax than we should be (leaving ipads and other pricey stuff just laying out). It is a risk you run at any hotel, not just WDW. You can get a dishonest worker in any situation. If you have stuff that you absolutely can't lose, you should definitely use the safe or leave it at home where you know it is safe.

Unless you saw it happen, you can't positively know that it was stolen. Could have fallen in some towels and been taken with the laundry or got moved and forgotten about. I'm not doubting your story, but I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. If it really bothers you, call Disney, explain what happened and give the name of the person.

I'm in 100% support of this post!

I'm also not sure i understand what getting everyone to gripe will accomplish. Just because 50 disboarders have stories to share, it doesn't mean there's a trend. Are you trying to see how others handled their situations successfully? That would be interesting to hear about.

Thx Kelly :) i really appreciate Your reassuring Reply :) Thx :) and thx for the Advice! :) :thumbsup2 and im planning on taking some anime box sets with me to watch, where do you think i should keep thoses? :)

Will they fit in the safe? If they are normal DVD box sets, you should be able to lock them up no problem. I'm not 100% sure though because as mentioned in my first post, we don't use the safe like we should. We're going in a month and maybe I should use this discussion as a wake up call to do so.

I've heard swim tops for a 10 year old are a hot item on the black market. You can make HUGE money off of them - totally worth someone losing their job over. I'm POSITIVE ***** stole it. No way did it fall off the rack and into a garbage can or onto the floor where it got kicked under something or mixed up with towels that were taken out of the room for washing. Nope, the simplest answer is that ***** stole it. Occam's Razor for sure.

Aww, I think you guys are beating up on a kid who just isn't thinking things through all the way. He/she says it was her sister's swimsuit and he/she is talking about bringing her anime tapes (I know adults watch them too, but see above).

As for low post counts, I've been coming here for years, but just recently decided that I should actually contribute instead of just soaking up everyone else's knowledge. Everyone had a low post count at one time.

That may be interesting rn, and no, just want to make sure i can trust Disney again :goodvibes:)

If you want absolute assurance that nothing will disappear from your room at a Disney resort, we can't give it to you. Yes, items have gone missing from Disney resorts, as they have at many, many, many hotels. Thankfully, it's rare, I've stayed in dozens of hotels over the years, and never had a single thing stolen.

Hotels try very hard not to hire dishonest people, but it happens sometimes. Accidents happen, too. Items get swept up with the bedding or towels and end up in the laundry, or mistakenly discarded.

You can lock valuable items in the room safe, but the best way to protect your stuff is not to take irreplaceable items with you when you travel. If you can live without it for a week, it doesn't need to come with you.

Before I leave for the day, I put my stuff away. I don't leave things on the bed, or on the night table. Clothes get hung up in the closet, other things get put back in my bags or in a drawer. I neaten up the items on the bathroom counter, or put them back in my cosmetic bag. I fold back the bedding to make sure I didn't leave a book or my reading glasses in there.

This isn't because I don't trust the housekeeper and think she'll make off with everything she can. It's because it's easier and faster for her to clean the room if she doesn't have to work around my clutter. It also avoids having things accidentally end up in the laundry or the trash.

We have never had anything stolen from any of our WDW trips. We have visited many times since ~1985.

With that said...

- Why in the world would you bring irreplaceable items on a vacation trip?
- A used swimsuit top is worth what, maybe 50 cents at a garage sale? It makes no sense that it would be a thief's target.

Just bring normal stuff, nothing fancy. Leave the Rolex watch collection at home. Have fun and don't worry.

I've had to remove a couple of name-calling posts from this thread.

Anyone who posts here is deserving of basic civility and respect, no matter how many posts they have.

I'm thinking that the top wasn't stolen, but got mixed up in the laundry some how. This happened to my daughter's pillow case (flowered, looked nothing like the white one on the beds). We put in a claim with the front desk to check the laundry before we left and two weeks later they had found it and sent it back to us.

I also had a white shirt disappear on a trip to London once. Never did see that top again. I was almost positive I'd put it in my suitcase after wearing it, but it wasn't there when we packed up. It had to have been stuck in the laundry some how. I also thought about the maid taking it, but decide that was the least likely of the scenarios.

I'm sorry that happened to her.

Having worked on the edges of loss prevention lots of theft is actually just lost. But we live in an age of no personal responsibility.

It very well could've been a mix up with laundry - if it was laying somewhere near towels piled up especially. Our last trip we had an offwhite beach towel that was accidentally taken from our room. And I have to think it was for sure by accident because we came back after running out quickly that morning and we had left 2 laptops, my kindle and the kids' leappads out on the table and they were all still there so I don't think a beach towel would've been taken over those.

If the swim top belonged to a matched set, meaning that it had a matching bottom, then I would guess that it somehow got mixed in the sheets or towels rather than stolen. Why would anyone want it, anyway.

We have never had anything stolen at a WDW hotel in the 39 years we have been staying there. We have had a beloved "blankie" left behind. Lucky for us and our three year old daughter, her blanket was found and mailed to us.

I have a problem believing that a housekeeper would risk losing a job over a kid's swim top.
The more likely scenario described by a PP is that the item was inadvertently mixed in with the towels or trash and removed.

Just do as advised. If an item is irreplaceable, don't bring it. Tidy up your belongings to make sure nothing is taken in error by being left laying on the bed, etc.

FWIW, I've never had anything misappropriated from a hotel room--but I did once leave a bad of laundry in a hotel in England. Ooops!

I had a bag stolen from the laundry room, at the time we didn't realise that it had 3 of the boys light up toys in it from the parades, " they was only 4,4,6 and they thought they was helping tidy up but put them in the end of the bag"
Anyways I popped to get some change for the machines after loading the clothes into it and when I came back it had gone!
I'm guessing a guest needed a spare bag as they had brought too much to pack saw this one and took it!
Disney actually replaced the light up toys for the boys! And have us a GC for the bag!! Not nice did we ask we just hoped it had been handed in, but was told this happens a lot! :(

So I trust other guests a lot less then the disney maids that come in our room when we have laptops etc out!

Although I can't say it doesn't happen, it seems illogical to steal a child's swimsuit top. The housekeeper referred to in the previous story was stealing cash.

It's not like you can report theft of a swimsuit top to the police, either.

It is possible the top was taken down to facilitate cleaning and then got mixed up in the bedding or towels and was taken out accidentally, so I'm not currently willing to assume you had something stolen. If something goes missing I'd have the resort try to look for it. And no, I have never had an article of clothing stolen from my room.
