.. or at least pick a color. ;)

So, here's the deal. DF and I are working on the dining room in our condo. We just ripped out the carpet (yeah, carpet in a dining room.. gross.) and painted the walls. We plan on finishing up the new flooring this week. It's laminate flooring, but actually looks like hardwood - unlike a lot of laminate out there right now. We plan on putting the new flooring in our kitchen, which means.. we need to paint our kitchen, too! It's kind of an ugly green color right now. I've been saying for 3 years that I wanted to paint the kitchen, so now I finally have an excuse.

I'm completely stuck on what color to use! I'm really not very good at picking out what looks good design/color-wise, so I'd appreciate some honest advice. Here's some pictures of what we're working with..

The dining room, before (minus the dining room table):

The dining room, after - we obviously still have to finish the flooring and put up the baseboards, but you can see the paint colors and flooring:

Another before shot of the kitchen.. ignore the towel on the floor, our cats like to play in their water bowl.. :rolleyes1

Another kitchen shot, you can see the cabinets better.. we have a different stove now, too, it's white with a gray & black flat cooktop.

So, we're got dark brown cabinets and eventually will have the dark flooring in the kitchen, as well. You can sort of see the ugly green wall color in that last picture. I don't really have any decorative items in the kitchen to match, so that doesn't matter. So any suggestions at all would be appreciated. :flower3:

What about a shade of yellow for the kitchen? I don't have time to pull up examples, but it wouldn't be mustard. Almost the color of the message board. I would lighten it up since the cabinets are dark.

As for the dining room, I would either do a shade lighter or a color that would complement the yellow in the kitchen so it flows.

the red on the dining room wall is new right? I think maybe a golden color for the kitchen would be nice and would compliment the red in the dining room. Not too yellowy and not mustard; something more golden tone

My all time favorite paint color ever is what we did in our kitchen last year...Benjamin Moore Monroe Bisque. It's a goldy beige. I love it.

Is it just the one wall in the dining room that's painted red and the rest is a cream color? If so, I would paint the kitchen the same cream color. If the cream color is not staying, I agree with the previous poster to choose a color that would go with both the dining room and the kitchen.

Yeah, the red in the dining room is new. It's just the one wall that's red, and the other ones are the tan/cream color. I was thinking about doing the same color for the kitchen, or maybe even a yellow-ish/gold color, but didn't know if it would be too "blah".

I'll have to look that one up. Thanks. :goodvibes

ETA: Also, I just noticed how bright the flash on my camera made the red look.. It's really not a bright, blood red color.. it's a little more of a darker/deeper tone.

I was thinking of a deep yellow too. Don't know why but I seem to be partial to deep red and deep yellow, maybe not together though;)

I have this in my living room and dining room and agree it is wonderful! It is a really nice goldy color.

:thumbsup2 I think either match one of the yellows in the rug, as it looks nice with the cabinets, or Classic Pooh shade of gold would be pretty. (I mean the real pooh color, not something named "Classic Pooh" in the Disney colors, BTW!) Golden yellow looks beautiful with dark wood.
