Hi!
I had a friend ask me about which deluxe resort on the monorail would be good for her family. :scared1:
There will be twin girls (4 at time of trip), mom and dad. My friend is looking into a 6 night 7 day trip in Jan 2013. The only guidelines I got were "must be monorail resort and have a good pool." I have never stayed at any deluxe (we are a mod family). SO to my wonderful DIS people...please help me help her!

Ohhh....if I could pick for someone else it would be the Poly! I've always wanted to stay there and their volcano pool looks great!!! We've ate at 'Ohana but never stayed there!

Sounds like the Polynesian would be perfect for them! Right on the monorail, awesome pool with a great slide, beautiful family atmosphere!

In January, they may not get much pool time if any depending on the weather. Personally, I like the CR for the convenience of the walkway to the MK but it's pool is rather simply themed. I like the theming of the poly pool but find it to be very crowded. I don't see much love on these boards for the GF pool. I think it is very nice and always seems less crowded than the poly pool. All 3 resort pools have slides. I would have them pick whichever resort they like best for overall theming and convenience. They can't go wrong with either 3.

I'm not sure when all of the construction at GF will be complete. I'd pick the Poly.

Poly has the better pool and would be my pick of the 3 IMO however with the constructions rumors I'd probably book the CR to avoid all of that.

Robin, to ensure you are not the one she blames if she is unhappy, I would either email or print out for her information about all 3 monorail resorts and let her choose what best suits her family and budget.

Some things that may not seem obvious as well are important. Example:
The Contemporary can get VERY loud if you are near the Lobby/restaurants/Shoppes.
  • The G-Flo has rates from $400 a night and up, but the closer you are to the monorail, the more the room costs.
  • There is construction going on at the G-Flo
  • The Monorail Hours are important

The contemp and Poly are both great hotels.

The volcano pool at the Poly is great as well as the one quiet pool. Also it is a short walk to the TTC ( to go to Epcot).

There are great restaurants at both resorts.. but there are dole whips at the Poly.

My vote would be for the Poly as well.
However, the Wilderness Lodge may be a good option too, even though it doesn't fit the monorail criteria...but that is only a boat ride away. Just a thought...;)

Thanks for the replies!
I am going to loan her some of my many, many guide books to look at and compare notes.
I was thinking Poly..because that is where I would stay...sigh

Totally, agree with all of this. I found the CR walkway invaluable when my kids were that age. GF is my kids favorite. The Poly pool is always crowded but may not be an issue in Jan.

I would pic Poly or GF, but with construction at both resorts :confused3 not sure. I'd send her the link to Allears.net resort photos so she can look at all the resort photos. Maybe CR would be the better option with no resort construction. But as long as she's informed about construction she can make up her on mind on it.

Considering the time of the year they are going (January) and the construction.. I would have to vote for CR. Though it's not my pick.. but at least I have the hot tub and no construction. :) Poly doesn't have a hot tub and this is a plus on my list when it's too cold to swim, at least there's the hot tub at CR. GF has a hot tub too, but there's also a construction going there.

Add another vote for the Poly. They have a great themed pool.

Another vote for the Poly. We've never stayed at the CR, but between the Poly and GF, we like the volcano pool at the Poly much better than the beach pool at the GF. Plus we love the relaxed tropical atmosphere of the Poly and the beach is great for watching the fireworks. With that said, any of the monorail resorts would be great, but our favorite is the Poly.

You quoted me and I wasn't voting for Poly, not for them for those reason I have given.. However.. I vote Poly for myself!! :goodvibes Not during winter and not during construction.
