Does anyone have any suggestions on getting getting the 1500 loop. I know it's not easy, but I'm sure there are ways to help my chances.

I have had good success by faxing the FW front desk with my request. I do so 5-6 days before my check-in date. There use to be thread that had the fax number and a sample letter for this purpose. Let me see if I can find it.

1) Check-in as early in the day as possible.
2) You can check-in fro 6:05am.
3) The earlier, the easier it is to switch your campsite if you don't like it.
. . . if there early, you can take someone else's site
. . . they then get your old site
. . . conversely, someone before you can grab your great site
. . . this is done every day at all the resorts, including The Fort
. . . it is what it is

PS - When working The Fort, I do not use faxes. In fact, they are
usually placed into "File 13" for several reasons.

This is a start. Even if your preassigned site is not ready if you check in before the official 1pm checkin time, check in anyway even if you have to wait for the site. They won't tell you the EXACT site number but they should be willing to tell you the loop you are in which is what you really care about. Ask for 1500 loop if it's not what you were preassigned. They'll take your cell number and text you the site number when it is ready for you.

Also, try to avoid trying to check in on a Friday or Saturday which are popular in the Tent/Partial loops 1500/2000 for those campers coming in for a weekend trip. It's easier to score a 1500 site on a Sun-Thur checkin date.

I agree that checking in early is very helpful. We have switched sites many times if we found ourselves assigned to something that didn't work for us. You can drive around and make a short list of sites you would prefer. Then call the front desk from one of the hospitality phones at a comfort station and see if they can work some magic.

As far as the faxes go, when tent camping, if we don't fax we always get assigned to 2000 loop. Maybe a coincidence, but I think not!:thumbsup2

Thanks for all the help! We'll see how it goes. I'm also going to try early check in.

I'm sure that begging helps also. 1500 is one of those gems that somehow fell through the cracks. The only problem I find there is that it's prone to flooding. Other than that it's prime realesate at The Fort.

We have requested site #730 for the last 3 trips via the fax, 1 week prior. always surprised that we get it. you can view us on google maps fort wilderness, just zoom in on 730, its our camper and truck. thanks to shanman

good luck!
