Help me get over a pet peeve

So, here it is - Christmas morning. It's also Monday, which is our usual garbage pick-up day. So, of course, a few morons on the street don't realize that the garbagemen don't work on Christmas Day! So, in front of many houses sit THREE garbage cans (one for garbage, one for recyclables and one for yard clippings). What a beautiful site for my family to see when they turn onto our street! Not to mention, those cans take up a lot of parking spaces on the street!

Have you any words to help me "get over it"?

Besides get over it?

It's not just your neighborhood, I'm sure it's happening in neighborhoods all over the country. Your family (if they notice anything at all) will think they are in a normal neighborhood with normal families who forgot that there will be no trash pick up today.

OR perhaps the people that put out the garbage aren't going to be home for Christmas and know the pick-up will be tomorrow (Tuesday), so did it ahead of time?

I know our garbage pick-up is Thursday, so on Thanksgiving, some people had their garbage out. I just assumed besides forgetting, it could be that they are at out of town relatives for that day and may not be back until the weekend or very late at night.

I know when we have gone to a couple of my aunt's house, they live far enough away that it's practically midnight when we get back home and we are so tired that we would probably forget to put out the garbage if we didn't do it ahead of time.

Has your family been to your home before? Is it there first time there? I'm just wondering why you think they are going to turn on your street and go "gasp, there are garbage cans out in her neighborhood"? If they have been there before they probably aren't even going to notice. Even if it's their first time, they probably still won't think twice about it. I know I wouldn't, I would just go to my relatives house and probably not even pay attention.

I don't know if the words helped you get over it at all or not but those are my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps some and have a wonderful family get-together in spite of them being already out. :goodvibes

If I were going away for the holiday, I would totally put the garbage out and leave it there. Too stinky and gross otherwise

Ummmm...so what? I don't think your family is going to really care. It is Christmas day, so the trash is probably going to get worse throughout the day. Let it go...it'll only tick you off more in the long run. ;)

Are you having a picnic out on your front lawn? Then they really shouldn't be bothering you. I doubt your family would even think anything of it. I'm sure they've seen trash cans before. :confused3

Next time, stick some bows on top of each can.

I like it!

I agree it's unattractive, but it's a fact of life. Unless the rest of your family somehow magically can't produce garbage, it's nothing they haven't seen before.

PERFECT!

That's what I'll do next time!

Well, the day is over. It didn't bother anyone but me. So what - I lived! Obviously, I got over it. :)

I don't like it either. If people are home, I don't know why they put the cans out in front of their home on holidays. I, too, get over it but just don't think it is nice to do on a holiday.
I guess it is just us.

It is not worth getting stressed about it. Maybe they forgot, went away, not sure if there is a pick up or not. Just not worth losing sleep over. Think about the holiday instead and forget about it!!
