Hi I am new here...but you seem to be a VERY knowledgeable bunch!

My husband and I are planning to go to WDW 9/6 for five nights. It will just be the two of us (no kids), and we are looking for a decent off site hotel at a good price. Ultimately we would like to stay near DTD, and we would need shuttle transportation-as we do not plan to rent a car.

So far I found the following deals, which are pp for five nights and include our airfare from NYS:

1.Grosvenor $422
2. HOJO Maingate East $344
3. Clarion Maingate $356
4. HI Hotel and Suites Maingate East $370
5. Sheraton Safari $392
6. Courtyard by Marriott-Lake Buena Vista $398
7. Renaissance Worldgate $404
8. Ramada Plaza Gateway $410

I have not been to WDW since 1988, and for my husband it has been since before Epcot! Because of this I am not familar with the area, and where exactly these hotels are located. So if you don't mind helping out a "newbie" I would love input!

Thanks! :D

Are those rates per person? I don't know how much the airfare is from NY, but guessing it's around $200 each, I think you'd be paying too much. Based on my experience, if you're going to stay off-site, you really need a car to have an enjoyable trip. None of the off-site hotels I've stayed at (Renaissance World Gate, Marriott OWC, what was then a HoJo, now a Ramada) have had reliable shuttle service frequently. If you really don't want to rent a car, you should probably stick to a downtown Disney hotel. The Grosvenor is the only one on your list that is in Downtown Disney. Most of the others are pretty far away. Since it doesn't look like you're too picky about your hotel choice - have you thought about using Priceline? If you check biddingfortravel.com, you'll find lots of people getting rooms at the Renaissance and Sheraton Safari for about $35. We stayed at the Renaissance last October for that rate and it was great. You would need to plan on renting a car, but you should be able to get a pretty good rate if you use some of the codes that can be found on mousesavers.
I hope this info helps!

Search For airfare useing Orbits,Travelocity,Expedia and use from all the Airports near you to Orlando or mco in airport speak. When you find a good fare[watch the transportation board here] the go to that Airlines website and book it!!

I can definitely vouch for the Sheraton Safari, just outside DD. Good quality at a good price. I also like the Best Western LBV in the DD area (easily one of the best BW's I've seen). I do hear some negative reports about the Grosvenor, but equally it is in a great location and seems to be working hard to eradicate the faults. I also like the Royal Plaza Hotel here, too, if you get a quote on that. Basically, from the DD hotels you can walk to the Marketplace and catch a Disney bus easily enough if your chosen hotel's shuttle service lets you down at all.
