Help me decide where to go for a long weekend in February.

My husband and I have a ton of airline and hotel credits to use, and we want to take a long weekend somewhere in Feb. I want to do it while my kid is still at home so I don't have to hire a pet sitter, and he will moving out in June-ish, so Feb it is

My only requirement is somewhere new. And maybe nicer weather than MN in Feb, but if there is a ton to do and we won't get snowed in somewhere, I can be swayed to stay in the northern part of the country, too. So, here are all the places we have on the list - thoughts? Would you venture there for a long weekend - is there enough to do? Give me some highlights in whatever you choose, too, please!

Or, give me new ideas - the poll would only hold so many. These are the other places we can go that fit our warmer/never been requirements:

I've been to almost all of the cities you mention (mostly during my career and not necessarily as a tourist). I would choose Savannah. The park blocks are gorgeous as well as the architecture of the homes, inns and eateries. The trolley is the best way to travel around. The food is fantastic, but it's the streets/trees that appealed to me the most; it's so scenic and relaxing.

Of that list, I'd say Austin. My wife and I have talked about doing a long weekend there sometime soon - great food, live music, etc.

Savannah is in my top two, as well. Due to what you have said. Palm Springs is my other one, but the flight kind of shies me away (longer flight, short weekend...?).

We did a long weekend trip out to Palm Springs last February. Fun place - I would recommend it as well.

I have always wanted to go there - my aunt lived there, old-school Hollywood style. It has always seemed like a glamourous oasis. Plus - sun and palm trees in Feb? Woo this Minnesota girl just with that!

Savannah! I've been twice and it is a beautiful city with a ton of things to do or you just can wander the city squares and cemeteries (absolutely beautiful!). The RiverFront has a lot of great restaurants and the Candy Kitchen is full of excellent handmade candies. The Olde Pink House is one of my absolute favorite restaurants and would be lovely for a nice meal.

It really depends on what you want to get out of the weekend (other than warmer weather ). Are you looking to relax? Do you want a place with active nightlife? Are you interested in history? Knowing what you hope to get out of the weekend will narrow down the choices. You won’t get the same experience out of Charleston or Savannah that you would out of L.A. or Austin.

My only caution on your list would be New Orleans, depending on how close your trip would be to Mardi Gras and/or how much you want the Mardi Gras experience. New Orleans is a wonderful place to visit but personally I would not visit during Mardi Gras. You may feel differently.

Are all of your options that you listed places that you can fly direct? For a long weekend, I would cross off anything that involves a layover / flight change.

I would normally vote NYC because I love the city but in February I feel like walking around the city can be really cold and the wind seems to increase between the buildings. I vote Savannah. I recommend doing a ghost tour if you go. I do them a lot when I travel and this was my favorite (Boston was second).

Yeah, I think I am taking NO out of the running - DH is going to Baton Rouge for a week in the spring, and, while it is not the same place, just seems too similar.

We like cultural, museums, mini golfing, good restaurants, historical things.

Some places are. I am trying to avoid anything that connects in the northern half of the country..

Ha! I also have a TON of Amtrak points we need to use, so we are doing a long weekend in Chicago, via the rails, too... I do love Chicago and it has been far too long since I visited!

Assuming it would be a direct flight, I would choose Albuquerque and then rent a car and drive to and stay in Santa Fe.

I voted for New Orleans. Depending on when you go in February, there should be some Mardi Gras festivities starting to fall into the mix. Fat Tuesday isn't until March 4th, so you could get some of the festive vibe without it being total chaos. We love walking around the French Quarter, there are some great museum options, plenty of entertainment with all of the jazz, and FOOD/DRINKS! Ghost tours, cemetery tours and airboat trips are also good.

I've seen a few people post before and they opted for lodging outside of the city, but we usually stick with the French Quarter or the parts of the Central Business District right along the edge of the French Quarter. Garden District also isn't bad and sets you up well for taking street cars, but I have always liked being in the heart of the FQ.
