Help Me Decide: Where to Buy My Dress?!

Hi girls. So, I sort of have a dress buying dilemma, and I need input!

I'm currently a first year grad student in Wisconsin, but I call Connecticut "home." My fiancee and I are getting married in the first week of January 2012, and I will still be a graduate student (and still be living in Wisconsin) at that time.

BUT, I'm trying to figure out where I want to buy my dress. I know it would make a lot more sense to buy a dress here, in Wisconsin--- it would be easy to go to fittings and I'd have more time to look, etc., etc. But, I don't know... there's something more appealing about buying my dress at home. I'd be able to go shopping with my friends and family (there are some girls here I could go with, but they're people I've only known for 2 months!), AND my dress wouldn't have to go on a plane because my grandparents could bring it to Florida for me. However, it would be really difficult to do fittings--- my grad program is fairly intense, and I don't get summers off. I could go home for a weekend or so, but that would end up costing a lot of money in the long run, money that could potentially go to something else!

SO... what would you do?! Thanks, and sorry for the longish post!

I would order the dress from a shop in Wisconsin. You'd usually have at least 2-3 fittings and that's a lot of time to be traveling back and forth. Plus I feel like things always have a way of coming up before the wedding and it just might add stress that you don't need.

Could you go shopping at home and then order the dress from a local shop in Wisconsin? This way you still get the experience with your family and friends and they'll feel included in the process?

I agree with Sara - the fitting process can be very long and it would probably be difficult doing that home in CT. I completely understand because I'm originally from New Mexico but decided to buy my dress in Virginia where I'm also attending grad school (no summers off sucks :headache:). I think you could definitely shop in CT but just purchase the dress in Wisconsin so you can do your fittings there.

I was SO going to say what they said before I knew they had said it. Get the whole "trying on the dress with family and friends" experience in CT then order in Wisconsin. Easy peasy. I haven't started trying on dresses yet, but I KNOW I want my family there and wouldn't forgo that for anything.
