Help me Decide - Split stay???

We will be going to BWV for our first DVC trip as we are new members as of April. We currently have a standard view studio booked for the first four nights, then a 1 Bedroom Boardwalk View for the last three nights. Seriously considering doing the dining plan only for the first four nights. Figured we would do a bit of running around for the first four nights and then relax at the resort in the bigger room for the last few days.

Now we are considering splitting our stay to perhaps WLV for the last three days in a 1 BR as well, but I haven't called MS today as I figured with everyone making AKV ressies that it would be a nightmare today.

Is it wise to make a move mid stay, or do you think it would just be easier staying at BWV for the entire week? I am tentative about the BW view as I have read that it could be noisy and we have two small wee-uns. We are waitlisted for the 1 BR standard view to save points and to hope for a quieter stay. We rarely sit out on the balcony looking at views anyway.

Looking for some guidance from the experienced on this.

My DH insists that I can never let things alone and I am constantly changing or rearranging our plans and itinery...but to me this is half the fun. I know I am not the only one like this out there.

TIA

Jacqueline

We did a split stay on our last trip and loved it. We also went from a studio to a 1 BR and it felt like 2 separate trips! We let bell services take our luggage, went to TL for the day and arrived at BWV at check in. It went very smoothly. I was afraid that I would hate packing up in the middle of the trip, but we did some planning to make it easier. We kept our clothes for the 2nd part of the trip in a separate suitcase and didn't even open it. We also waited to buy most of our souvenirs after the move. Finally, we packed a mesh laundry bag and put all of our dirty clothes in it. We didn't have to repack anything we had worn and it was ready to be washed when we got in the 1 BR.

Thank you slp87 for the great ideas.

Did you switch resorts or just change rooms at the BWV?

We have had many Boardwalk view rooms - and honestly LOVE it - especially since our daughter is a bit younger. Why? You can see the Epcot fireworks from the balcony - so you don't have to go to the park to see them. So - sometimes, we try to stick to a schedule - but hate to miss the fireworks - this way, we get both. :)

I have switched from WLV to BWV. I have switched from BWV to BCV and I have switched from a standard view in BW to a boardwalk view in BW. All of the switches have been the same amount of work. They are not bad - but we have decided that we don't like switching anymore... (basic reason is we have decided we prefer BW and we prefer boardwalk view - so why switch? Plus - I hate packing... )

But - that being said - Disney makes it very easy. Pack up your bags - call bell services - they take them away. Go about your day and when you are ready - go check into the next resort. If your room is ready - your bags can be sent to your room. Bell services is always helpful and fast. It really does not matter if you stay in the same resort or move across Disney to another resort. However, moving does add another layer of tips, and I would rather use that for another beer at Epcot! :rotfl2:

We've done split stays many times - when we first joined DVC we did four nights each at different DVC resorts - kids loved trying new places and really helped us with deciding where to stay for future trips - give it a try, it really is like having two separate vacations. And Welcome Home!!!:goodvibes

We did a split stay last christmas between SSR & BWV ( we loved BWV so much, that we added on there:love: ). We will do it again this Thanksgiving at VWL(studio sat& sun night then OKW (1bdrm for the remainder of the week)
IF you don't mind moving, split stays are an opportunity for a new member to "try" a new resort while also being able to stay at your home resort. :thumbsup2

Thank you to all for sharing your experiences. I don't mind moving either, especially if we are to upgrade to a 1 Br from a studio. By then it will be nice to have more room and a Washer and Dryer.

My only wonders now are that since we are on the waitlist for a BWV standard view 1 Br, which I would love to get to save points....I am wondering whether any might possible open up for August, since some AKV units will be available for booking by then. Maybe I should wait a couple of days and then call over the weekend. Does this sound like wishful thinking on my part?

That's exactly what we will be doing in August. 5 nights in a BWV studio and then 3 nights in an AKL 1 bedroom. We are also only doing the DDP for the first 5 nights. Plan to finish up the meals left on the DDP up to midnight of our AKL check-in date and take a break from all the food by cooking simple meals in the 1 bedroom the next 2 days.

Now we are considering splitting our stay to perhaps WLV for the last three days in a 1 BR as well, but I haven't called MS today as I figured with everyone making AKV ressies that it would be a nightmare today.

I did call today because I finalized my air tickets today. We had to add an additional night to our existing reservation because of our return flight. No BWV studios left. Decided to get a one bedroom and since we had to move anyways, decided to try AKL. Hate to move for only one night, so dropped 2 nights from our BWV studio reservation and added 3 nights in one bdrm AKL. Had to wait about 10 minutes on hold - not too bad.

It IS easier from my point of view to stay at the same resort if the new room is ready early. Then you can potentially move your stuff yourself. However, since that may not happen and you have to pack up everything for luggage services to hold while waiting for your new room to be ready anyways, it may not be any different from moving to another resort altogether. At least, that what I'm telling MYSELF!! :rolleyes1 And I'm usually the queen of not moving. The noise from the BW views would depend on your tolerance for any type of noise. Lots of people feel that the windows do a great job blocking out the sounds. I have a feeling, I would not be bothered, being from the big city. Crickett sounds, on the other hand, bother me! ;) Others that are use to a certain type of quiet at home, may not feel the same.

Have fun switching stuff around!!

For the dates that we will be going, the week night points for a AKL Sav View one bedroom (26) was less than a BWV PV one bdrm (28). And the Std Views for both were 22 pts each weekday night.

I actually was booking a Sav.View but while cancelling the last 2 nights of our BWV stay, the last one got snagged by someone else! So, I booked the Std.View instead and saved a total of 12 points. I figure we will enjoy animals by going to the viewing areas instead.

Something to think about.

Grace,

It sounds like we think alike. I was at work all day or else I may have called MS today just to see if anything was available. The earliest I would be able to call would be tomorrow evening so chances of me being able to switch to AKV will be very slim. Plus I think it might be too tempting, since AKL is my favorite onsite hotel, I might be forced to do an add-on there before my BWV purchase is paid off.

I was leaning towards WLV 'cause DH loves it there and it would be close to the MK for the P&P Party night and extra magic hours.

Which week are you going. We will be at the BWV from Aug 24 - 31. Absolutely cannot wait!

Jacqueline! Well what do you know? Well be at BWV from 8/21-8/26/07 and then AKL from 8/26-8/29/07. So, maybe we'll meet up at the BWV pool!
