We have 150 Direct at Poly and 200 Resale at BLT. We have five (!) trips planned over the next year, by which time our available points will be quite paltry. And after this summer, we will have to book 2BRs, so the required points will go way up. I'm hoping a well-timed add on can bridge us to the next year of plenty. We also really want to do a stay at Aulani in 3-5 years, and that's going to require quite a points haul. So I'm trying to decide when and where, not if, for adding on. I probably want ~200 points, and I don't want a 2042.

1. Sticking with what I have for now, and waiting for our "DVC wish list" to develop a bit. We've only ever stayed onsite at AoA and Poly (7 nights total, so not much experience). So we're also hoping those five trips (BWV, AoA/GF, Riv/BLT, Poly, and TBD) will give us a stronger sense of where we want to stay more long term.

2. Buying CCV to get some cheap SAP that last a long time. We need 2BR for the next 6-10 years, so that requires a lot of points and CCV's chart is much more favorable for this than the other options.

3. Adding on at BLT for longer 2BR stays at 11 months. Longer stays are great, but we would only have 11-month priority at 2 resorts if we do this. In another 10 years, we would probably wish we had a third home resort and just committed to banking/borrowing to orchestrate longer stays.

4. Buying a RIV resale to have an option with better Epcot/HS access (I even toyed with BWV, but it just doesn't make financial sense with 2042 expiration). Having visited for Topolino's, I LOVE Riviera. I don't love the high points chart. I don't love the restriction to only RIV, but it's not that bad given I have two other contracts. It has the highest dues of the options, and it wouldn't help with an Aulani stay at all.

The list of people who have posted that they won’t buy a 2042 that now own at BCV and BWV……

I would highly recommend taking a breath and focus on your upcoming trips for the serotonin hit and then revisiting your DVC portfolio after your trips….
Myself included.

I would wait and see for several reasons that aren't even linked to seeing how you feel about resorts after visiting. I would wait due to

1. Resale market is a sellers market currently, wait for the market to come back to a buyers market. Shouldn't be too long.

2. Dues information for next year will be released soon, that could weigh heavily on what the best choice is.

3. Point chart adjustments will be released soon which could also impact your decision.

4. RIV will sell out soon and that will show how the restrictions will impact owners ability to book when RIV is their only option to book. This restriction is brand new and nobody knows how it will play out once sold out.

The smart move is to wait and see. I told myself that many, many times. And, I didn't listen 🙃. Like, didn't listen at all. So, I'm not the one to really deliver that message with any authority.

So, if I were in your shoes and couldn't resist the urge, I'd be setting dvcforless.com alerts for BLT, CCV and maybe RIV. If the right deal came along for BLT or CCV, I'd have a hard time resisting and would probably go for it. That's what I did and why I actually just wired the funds for my second CCV contract this morning :-). That said, I like having more points power at single resorts, so if I were in your shoes, would probably lean towards more BLT over CCV.

For RIV, you've got your 150 Poly points that can be used there - so, it's not like you're shut out of RIV. But, if you wanted a small contract to secure resort view studios, I could make the argument for that. I don't think I'd buy enough points there for 1 or 2 BRs unless you are absolutely certain you want that. I also think there is an argument that the price of resale RIV could see some increase once RIV is sold out.

Depending on your budget, another option to consider is more direct points - either more at Poly or some at RIV.

Yeah, I'm seeing that more and more - it just makes a lot more sense to wait for so many reasons. I agree that RIV is probably not the right move, especially considering we haven't even stayed there yet. I feel like RIV is a decent deal below $120 or so, and I think there's a decent chance it moves higher once it sells out. But I also don't like being locked into just RIV through 2070, the high points chart, or the possibility that availability gets tighter over time due to resale restrictions.

I really don't see the value in direct points because I already have the required 150, so the only advantage is flexibility with those points. It just doesn't seem worth it at all to me - I'd rather just make a decision and commit to the resorts I want. I highly doubt I'll ever buy more direct points.

Do not buy Riv resale without staying there, thats crazy to me. If it was Riv direct ok at least you get to stay other places, but what if you dont like it and you can only stay there??

Do not buy CCV without staying there. We've been having discussions with people that like BRV and not CCV. What if thats you?

Go on this trip, stay a bunch of places and then buy.
