Ok so originally planned to get most bits out there, have decided not to as I like what I know and without a car may not bother going to the mall.

My dd and I are very fair skinned so will take a spf 50 and spf 30 sun cream, also Solarcaine.

Please add items you've found useful or deem essential for Florida and the flight.

Also my mum who's coming with us takes steroids and has high blood pressure, should we use flight socks?? ... have never flown long haul :scared1: she is also prone to getting a case of the 'cankles' when/if her feet swell so need to get her a couple of pairs of decent footwear if anyone can recommend tried and tested please?

I need to start planning

I havent been to florida yet (going next summer), but when I went thethe dominican republic (very humid) I found magicool cooling spray a lifesaver!

I would wear flight socks but I think checking with her doctor is a good plan also:)

Flight socks on doctors recommendation I would think. I've never worn them (well, I tried them once and they were so uncomfortable they came off after an hour) I just do my leg exercises all detailed in the inflight magazines.

For shoes, I wouldn't be without my Hotter shoes. Try Hotter.com or Hotter.co.uk, can't remember which. They are all leather, with airsoles, incredibly comfortable and supportive, and don't look like granny grump shoes!

I always take a good mini moisturiser ( Nivea etc.) as I find my skin gets very dry on the plane for some reason.

I always take a first aid kit with plasters, pain killers, stuff for upset tummies.

Some blister plasters, Even my most comfy shoes can rub when touring the theme parks.

And anti-bac hand gel goes everywhere with me too, a quick squirt before stopping for a snack / lunch saves finding a bathroom, not OCD or anything but thinking about how many other people have touched hand rails and door handles in a day makes me a bit cautious ( Body Shop do some lush fruity ones for about £2)

Hi, we are also a very fair skinned family who burn very easily, get prickly heat and also get eaten alive by mossies during the summer months. We all take Piriton tablets for 2 weeks before we travel and whilst in Florida to keep the Prickly heat at bay (it works really well), and use Avon's 'Skin so Soft' after our showers and before we venture out in the evenings which stops the Mossies from coming near us.

I first read about 'Skin so Soft' on this forum years ago and swear by it now, as do many others I believe. It's a dry oil spray that we use, and for a two week+ holiday we take 2 bottles for the 4 of us and then leave the rest behind.

I forgot to mention - if you do burn, then it would be worth a trip to Florida Mall to the LUSH store. They sell 'Dream Cream', which is amazing stuff., fantastic for calming down sunburn. They use it in hospital burn units I've been told.

I always take our general health/medicine kit:

Suncream
Aftersun
Paracetamol
Ibuprophen
Swim Ear/Ear drops
Anbesol/Bonjella
Bite cream
Piriton tablets
Plasters
Nail Clippers
Eye drops
Athletes foot cream

Water water water it's very important to stay well hydrated.
I usually buy a bottle or two of water for the flight once we clear security along with some snacks. While you can get on the flight they can be expensive and they might not have what you like.
A hat is essential as well and I'm fair skinned as well and I find if I forget to wear a hat I can get dizzy and a sore head.
Long haul flights get up and walk around keep the circulation going.
Tweezers is another thing I pack it's amazing how many times you need them and don't have some.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, feeling both excited and overwhelmed so need to feel I'm at least doing something productive. Mum's also prone to being bitten so will look at the Avon oil.

Any footwear suggestions? I usually live in Birkenstocks and can walk all day in them but not sure so have been looking at Skechers Go walk anyone used them?

Face wipes are great after the long haul flight. It'll help to get rid of that groggy feeling, but also if the kids get messy.

SPF lip balm is a must, because it's the place you always forget or don't bother to put sun cream on. Burnt lips are really painful :(

One thing I'd say to leave until you get there is a bottle of waterproof suncream. The US quality is so much better than ours. Panama Jacks is brilliant, if not a bit more expensive. Lasts all day and is really thick, perfect for the waterparks!

Some more awesome Lush products are their shampoo bars; because they're solid they're really small and have no risk of leaking over everything.

I have had my eye on a pair of Skechers Go Walk and would love to know if anyone recommends them?!
