We go every year and now my DD is in 8th grade and he does not want to take her out of school for 4 days. I say the memories we make every year far outway the memories 4 days at school will be. She is a straight A student and making up the work has never been an issue. She gets it all done without a problem and we are there to help also. I have an annual pass that expires in March and we can get a decent rate at OKW for a 1 BR.We can't go during school vacation because of the various sports the girls are in and he doesn't want them to miss that either. I say you only come this way once- let's go!
Any suggestions on how to change his mind???? I am the Disney fanatic, he likes to get away but not consumed by it.
TIA, Linda

I say go for it and have a great time! My parents took my brother and I out of school for vacations every other year--even into high school--i took a week off in my senior year to go on a trip with my family..i remember a ton of things from that week of doing things with my family..i do not have one week of school that i remember everything!
If she can make it up and has the days to miss school, id go for it..
even now, im in college and still skip a week every semester for a vacation :)

What does your DD want to do? Doesn't she have a spring break coming up so she wouldn't be missing four days of academics? That seems like an awful lot of days to miss in the 8th grade, no matter what her grades are. I think I'd rather her miss a few days of sports in the summer than miss school days.

Is his true reason that he doesn't want her to miss school or does he really not want to go himself? My DH is happy going to WDW every 3-5 years and I like to go a lot more often than that. I've learned that I should leave him at home most of the time.

You might want to talk with your husband if you think there might be more to it than him not wanting your DD to miss school.

That's great that your schools let the kids make up work without any hassle. I wish it were that easy around here. It's left up to the teachers whether or not work cna be made up. We haven't pulled our kids from school often or for very long and our individual teachers have been fine with it, but the district does not like it.

My nephew has missed a week of school to visit - and now he is having trouble catching up on the work missed while keeping up with the current work (he's in 4th grade). The teacher was agreeable to him missing the week, but now she's not able to cut him any slack cuz he had a week off to have fun at Disney.

I'm all for taking time off school for family vacations, but now I feel bad for my nephew - he's the one paying the price.

Your best bet it to talk with the teacher and if you can get her on your side it would be easier to convince DH.

Good luck! :)
